Soon be time to do my oil change on my 17 Ram 1500 Hemi, looking for filter opinions.

Stick with Mopar MO-339 or go with Fram XG10060. No worries on warranty eith the Fram, right?

The Fram is supposed to be better .In real live you will never know the difference

What's the cost on the Mopar filter? Unless it's free or less than $1, go with the Fram XG, especially if you plan on keeping the truck. Is it likely to make a real difference in 100k miles? Maybe not... but I'm sure the Mopar is cellulose with no wire backing, and if it's $5-6 for this filter, the extra $2 for a Fram Ultra means peace of mind is essentially free, since you can't run the Mopar for 20k.

That Fram Ultra is a REAL nice filter. I used it on my last Mopar that called for the same filter, and used it for 15K miles. Cut it open, looks perfect inside.

Nothing wrong with Fram Ultra or Napa Platinum

Thank you Folks - OCI of 6,500-8,000 km (4,062-5,000 miles) Synthetic 5W20 (Petro Canada Supreme or Valvoline) oil. Yes, keeping it a long time, so want to take care of it.

Except the Platinum filters very poorly. A person should have a filter that filters well, plain & simple.

Fram Ultra XG10575 is the 0.7" longer version of the XG10060, I'd go with the longer one if you have room. More filtering area.
The Mopar only runs nitrile ADBV, and the Ultra is silicone, better.
Ultra filters best, is wire-backed, holds the most dirt before clogging, so it beats a Mopar in just about any way you want to look at it.
Ultra is at walmart or amazon, easy to get.

For my caravan the Mopar filter from the dealer is over $13 with taxes. I ordered Fram ultras from rockauto for under $9 each before shipping. Ordered 6 filters for two vehicles so shipping was under $2 a filter.

What about the TG?

What’s the word on the TG?

It’s a good filter. Good up to 10k. I use them all the time.

75% of this forum who use/ recommend the Ultra should just use the TG. Too many Ultras here cut upen at 7.5k/ 6 months.

So, by filtering well, you mean low insolubles, and that the inside (dirty) side of the filter is waaaay nastier than what's inside of the engine? Well, I hate to break it to you, but a NAPA Platinum 41516 turned in the lowest insolubles on my car in over 100k, and it was on the longest OCI ever on this vehicle as well (17.2k). And under the valvecover is still spotless... So, I guess I don't know what to say to argue your opinion?

Don't get me wrong... I completely understand Beta ratios, and filtering efficiency, but I also tend to take a more pragmatic approach with filtering. If most any car with regular, sensible OCI, conventional + no-name filter cars that get no love can make it to 200, 300, 400+k miles and the engine still runs, I have a hard time believing that filtering a couple more microns will actually extend service life any. Now, when you talk to guys like Shannow, with either turbines or aircraft engines, I completely am behind the absolute best filtration available, because a failure in the sky or on a gas turbine generator will most certainly cost lives.

That said, the Platinum is almost always offered at a higher price than the Fram Ultra, and when this is considered, there's definitely no reason to spend more on the NAPA filter. I like the Platinum; it is built like a tank and delivers UOA results on par with all other major filters in my experience, and is sometimes available at a great price during the annual filter sales. But between the two filters the OP posits, there is no contest. FU all the way.

I also have a '17 1500 with the HEMI but I have the 8 speed transmission with the knob on the dash, that's taking some time to get used to lol.

Is this your first oil change on your Ram? If so my factory filter was on so tight it was unbelievable. It took me almost an hour to get it off. I ended up using a strap wrench.

Also, the filter is right over the steering rack, there's cooler lines running near it, and it just plain makes a big mess when you change the filter. Have some extra rags to clean up underneath the truck.

I've been running nothing but TG's on it as having the sure-grip is really helpful in the horrible location they put the filter.
