So, by filtering well, you mean low insolubles, and that the inside (dirty) side of the filter is waaaay nastier than what's inside of the engine? Well, I hate to break it to you, but a NAPA Platinum 41516 turned in the lowest insolubles on my car in over 100k, and it was on the longest OCI ever on this vehicle as well (17.2k). And under the valvecover is still spotless... So, I guess I don't know what to say to argue your opinion?
Don't get me wrong... I completely understand Beta ratios, and filtering efficiency, but I also tend to take a more pragmatic approach with filtering. If most any car with regular, sensible OCI, conventional + no-name filter cars that get no love can make it to 200, 300, 400+k miles and the engine still runs, I have a hard time believing that filtering a couple more microns will actually extend service life any. Now, when you talk to guys like Shannow, with either turbines or aircraft engines, I completely am behind the absolute best filtration available, because a failure in the sky or on a gas turbine generator will most certainly cost lives.
That said, the Platinum is almost always offered at a higher price than the Fram Ultra, and when this is considered, there's definitely no reason to spend more on the NAPA filter. I like the Platinum; it is built like a tank and delivers UOA results on par with all other major filters in my experience, and is sometimes available at a great price during the annual filter sales. But between the two filters the OP posits, there is no contest. FU all the way.
