Mopar Oil Filters from the Mopar store

I wouldn't doubt that some Motorcrafts like that caused some engine issues with that junk black glue shedding off and going into the oiling system. This is why I dropped Motorcrafts like a hot potatoes. I'm not risking any possible engine problems over a junk oil filter.
We know the glue has made it through the engine to the drain pan. No doubt VVT screens are catching it…..

No I did not. A sampling of Parts that generate warranty expense are returned for the purpose of checking specification. Further, the subs themselves are subject to specification checks both before the awarding of a contract and during production. For example, one client produced for Toyota (dashboard vents) and a certain sample had to be sent to Toyota, or Toyota would show up and inspect. GM was similar but not quite as stringent.

No system is perfect and yes failures exist but the
Manufacturers have strong reputational and financial incentives at stake and behave accordingly. Doesn’t mean there aren’t good aftermarket filters but it’s a stretch to argue the original filter is inadequate.
It's OK if you are fooling yourself thinking the car manufacturers are really constantly monitoring the quality of their OEM oil filters. They aren't to the level you believe. Cut open filters posted here proves that. Like @GW. mentioned earlier, many OEMs were contacted about quality issues, and they act like it's the first time they ever saw or heard anything like that. Don't care what you or anyone else use ... this discussion is for others to see and decide what to use. People who read this forum a lot know what filters have good constant manufacturing quality and which ones don't.

Do you have any specific data on the Mopar oil filter for the 5.7 or are we still generalizing?

Looks like the Mopar filters also suffer from the black glue of death and tearing media. Classic Purolator/M+H problems.

Do a search for them in this forum and see what you can find and glean from that. As far as efficiency, I'd bet they are around 99% @ 30-35 microns. Some people don't care about efficiency, but again a personal choice. You will probably find some cut open posts too.

If I ordered a case of filters made by a company with sketchy quality, I'd cut one of the new ones open to inspect, as the filters in the case would most likely have been made on the same production run.

Edit .... looks like @GW. found an example. Looks to be the typical Mann+Hummel torn media issue.
Side note - and just because an oil filter looks good when inspected new, it doesn't mean it can't do something like tear the media or shed glue in use.

If you’re buying MO-339s, they’re cheaper on eBay. I got a dozen last year for $79, shipped. 2024 date codes.
Thank you but I don’t buy car parts on eBay. There are counterfeits and believe it or not uncommon for a lot of the bulk merchandise to be stolen.

^^^ Wide pleat spacing is definitely a formula for media tearing.
I am going to reach out to Stellantis today and show them this thread and indicate their oil filters are inadequate. I am sure they will respond soon, might even thank me - I can get a coupon for the unnecessary dealer upsell services.

TGIF to the rest of the folks who may have found the price information useful, have a good weekend.

I buy lots of car parts on eBay. From reputable sellers with long, positive histories and good return policies. I haven’t bought any fakes yet, and I have no reason to believe they are stolen. Sellers with tens of thousands of transactions over decades.

FWIW, I don’t run those filters on my Hemi because I don’t find them to be worth $10+. There are people, though, who insist on OEM filters. I keep them on hand to sell with the oil-and-filter deals I frequently sell/trade. I was simply trying to help you find the cheapest filter possible if you wish to run a Mopar filter.

Good luck.

I appreciate what you are saying. eBay has gotten better policing this type of thing so I believe you, but it is more of an issue than people realize. Particularly on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, etc. For me I simply have better options in terms of convenience and wait time typically so it is not somewhere I go for auto parts. But again thank you for trying to be helpful.

on the mopar e-store you can order the 3.6 filters 68191349AC 12 for under $90 and no shipping if you pick them up at your local jeep dealer. decent deal. I have bought a few air filters off the mopar e-store and had quick turn around on shipping.

Here is a MOPAR filter off my wife's then Jeep Renegade and was the factory installed filter. Made by the same people that made the Motorcraft.

OEM is not a guarantor of filter quality
I understand your perspective but if it were me then, I just would avoid the brand. Not saying there aren't better alternatives but the original part (not OEM, the two are not the same) should be sufficient. Quality is a process and a discipline, it's not random.

Perhaps I am colored by the fact that my first car was a project BMW, and the factory BMW parts have always been excellent.

Have a good weekend.

It’s obvious M+H ‘s QC issues are also present in their Mopar OEM filters. Hard pass for me to run one on my expensive nice Jeep. Many other great alternatives.
