I was the Chrylser dealership today, and bought an oil filter - it's a Mopar FE292. It was $7.14 CDN before taxes. Last time I bought one it was $5 CDN. I was moaning to the parts manager that I should have bought 10 of them when they were $5, and she said I could get a deal if I bought a case (six filters in a case). The price each when bought in a case ---- $3.99. All these years, I've been buying one at a time and wasting money....oh well.

Anyhow, from looking at some filter studies, it would seem that this Mopar is a Purolator (eight inlet holes, black nitrile ADBV, and I can see the spring loaded bypass valve up in the main hole). Can anyone confirm that Purolator makes Mopar filters? BTW, I'll be cutting one open very shortly (a used one mind you).

Yes, I see that. However, the appearance of the filters I bought would suggest that it's a Purolator. I guess I'll know more when I cut it open. Stange thing also, is my part number here in Canada is FE292 and the filter says 'made in Canada', but the American part number is 5281090 (for a '99 Dodge Grand Caravan with the 3.8 V6).

I went to the Wix site and plugged in FE292 and it said the manf. was Autopar.
Plugged in 5281090 and it came up with Mopar and noted to "also see Mitsubishi".

Wix's # for either is a 51085.

Is Autopar a Canadian company???

Purolators have rectangle inlet holes. Champions have circular. Wix (penske) have slightly oval. From what Ive seen this is the case.
