Tesla isn’t the only one with new cars lighting up neighborhoods

Tesla is not trying to be like other cars. The mechanical door latch is a backup to the electric door lock.
FYI, the electric system lowers the window a little when opening the door and then closes it. This is for ease of closure and tight window to frame fittment. Of course, the manual handle does not perform this...
By the way, Teslas are incredible driver's cars...
I am not sure the other car manufacturers think Tesla needs to catch up to them...

But each to his or her own.
So, other vehicles lower windows too when exiting. It is not Tesla’s thing. Any frameless window vehicles will do it.
Trying to be different? How? By confusing people when they need to bail out fire? In last 100 years of vehicle, airline, train etc. safety innovations it was proven numerous times that things like this confuse people. There is no such thing as “you have back up lever, you should pull it” when battery self ignites. You go for mechanism that your brain is trained to use most often.
And let’s talk elephant in the room here. What happens when vehicle like this self ignites with 2-3 children strapped in the seats? Even if driver is training every day to open that mechanical lever, bcs. that is what one should do when spends $130k (or any $), does mechanical lever opens all doors? Or just drivers door? What is with rear doors in case kids are in? I really want to know that. I actually didn’t have idea about this design until now.

There's no way the DOT would allow electric only to move the door actuator into the unlock position. Lock, sure, not a big deal. Basically I'm doubting the accuracy of the article.
Ok. But the question is whether mechanical lever is their back up that got approval to go with electric? But, problem with that is that in situation like this human brain doesn’t work that way.

No one said the window thing is only a Tesla thing.
By being different, that was in reference to your catchup post.

Here is a pic of our Model 3 door handle. This is different than the Model S, by the way. The S has a lever which I posted earlier.
At the top you see the electric switch; touch it and the door unlocks and opens slightly.
Below you can see the manual switch at the top of the arm rest assembly. An easy pull and the door opens as well.
It's not like the manual latch is hidden or tricky...

On another note, how did your minivan brakes work out?

Again, unnecessary complications to something that must be as simple as possible! Especially in a vehicle powered with such battery technology.
Everything points to brake booster. Apparently it is Toyota thing that Toyota doesn’t want to recognize as a problem. 2017 and later models have mandatory vacuum pump replacement at 120k on booster. Go figure.
I was on a road trip to Chicago with van, taking emotional break from driving it. Will fix it soon. In the meantime my trunk lid hit bike rack and misaligned hinges. Wondering actually should I just dump vehicle.

Every car I own has that. The doors lock at a certain MPH and unlock when park is selected, or a crash is sensed. Been true for decades and I’m certain that the DOT approved it.
And Tesla's have manual door releases. Still, in at least 2 cases the people could not get out and rescuers could not get in. Elon wants to put bulletproof glass on the cyber truck. Maybe that's not such a great idea.

One did not involve a crash or incident. The battery caught fire during normal operations. One caught fire due to undercarriage damage. Also not detected by the onboard systems.

I looked at my door handle today. It’s right there where the hand finds it on the door. It’s a chrome good sized lever that opens the door easily. It doesn’t matter if the door is locked or not. There is no looking for it or knowing about it.

A blindfolded or blind person unaware of the car model should be able to get out of a car in a few seconds. Maybe they test them for that, or should. As we see with the rolling infernos and people burned sitting in the back seat, no one in front, there should be a mindless, foolproof way to exit.

These have been around for decades. 🙄
Sure, and a few decades ago you had access to actual choice as to whether or not you chose them on many models today you do NOT.
I absolutely despise them and now we have no choice if we buy new cars at least in the USA, in other markets you still do have that choice.
