There is so much wrong with this ...

I took this picture a couple days ago on IL-53 in Bolingbrook. IL-53 is a very busy state route that travels from north to south through the western suburbs. There is a lot of truck traffic and I was in the right lane behind several semi trucks and couldn't figure out why we were moving so slow. It was snowing, cold, wet, and icy. When I was able to pass, this is what I saw. How appropriate that I happened to take this picture with the speed limit sign perfectly in the background. Jaw still on the floor.

In 1967 The Doors released "People are Strange". They were right.

Those electric bikes have taken over local streets at times, sometimes 3 or more abreast. Flying through stop signs, etc. Scary.

My neighbor is confined to a wheel chair. I sometimes see him scooting about far from home on busy roads in his motorized wheelchair.

My wife and I took a scooter ride in Vegas into Red Rock Canyon. We started in a storage facility and had to ride on public streets a few blocks to get to Red Rocks. It was an unpleasant few minutes until we got off road.

I often see a guy in a motorized chair like that driving on a very busy road here in Guelph, even in the winter when the roads are not very good. I don’t understand what is so important that he needs to risk his life like that 😬 There are wheelchair services that can take people places safely so that they never have to drive on the streets. I’m surprised that the police don’t pull them over and stop them from doing this.

I tend to think we share the road w/everyone...not just other automobiles. I do understand the safety risk for those folks from some inattentive driver that may not end well. That is their wheels & with that snow it's no surprise they had to do what they had to do to get where they were going. I don't think there is anything wrong with this, I do think there is something wrong with a driver of an automobile not paying any attention to their surroundings & causing an accident. It would be funny if you seen them rolling into a liquor store or something though...

In my town of 12k - I’m getting more and more annoyed by ATV’s on our roads which is surprising since we historically had a heavy handed PD.
It’s a dichotomy of sorts when one looks at how far vehicle safety systems have advanced to date …

Around here they ride ATV's and dirt bikes all over the road. Police are nonexistent. Not too long ago a kid on a dirt bike ran head on into a truck, was killed, and caused a major accident. Police are not allowed to chase them.

IIRC, about 1/3 of motorcycle fatalities involve a rider with no license. No doubt underage. Parent's fault entirely.

We have 2 of those in our neighborhood, ages 7 and 9. Police have been called to the house several times to address it and the neighborhood page has absolutely roasted the parents for letting them ride around like that. They still let them ride. Waiting for the crash carnage and the parents to blame the car driver for the loss of their kid. Apple doesn't fall far from the stupid tree.

Bet not many here have had to deal with DUI in a motorized wheelchair on a busy public street. Or a riding lawnmower.
There is a very old guy in the next town over - he even pulls a small trailer behind his old Craftsman mower - people deal with it bcs hey - still needs to work to keep a small brown bag occupied … (Have seen him pull in for Colt 45) …

In my local town there were a gang of about 15 kids on electric bikes. They would take over the road and do crazy things like play chicken with cars. The police eventually rounded up the group, confiscated their bikes and are currently pressing charges against them.

They see me rollin, they hate'n...

I know exactly where that is. Maybe the savings at Menards was worth him wheelchair'ing around 80k lbs trucks.

On a serious note, that section of walkway is outside of anybody's property. There's nobody to really 'blame' for not shoveling that sidewalk and I don't think anybody is going to walk around the entire fenceline to shovel that 600' strip of sidewalk that continues down the majority of 53.
