I get better UOA results from Amsoil than I did from Mobil-1 FWIW... And yes I know that UOA's aren't everything...

Still watching...

Steve, what grade Amsoil, how long and which Mobil 1 grade?

I have used Mobil-1 for the first 80,000KM on my SUV it was 5w30 before they brought out all these new types... Then I moved over to Amsoil SSO, then ASL 5w30/10w30 and all had much lower metal counts in the UOA's than Mobil-1

Both were tried with 5,000 & 10,000KM runs and the UOA's were done after each type of oil had been in there for a minimum of 4 changes...

(AGAIN I KNOW UOA's DON'T MEAN EVERYTHING - For those who are ready to shoot me).

I think UOA results are what we at the consumer level have to go by as a general measurement of engine health and oil performance. For a bit more we can get a premium interpretation and recomendation from Terry Dyson. If an oil is not working for you you can see in an analysis and find something that gives you better wear numbers. If you want more info you can get a particle count. WHich can find those big chunks that Spectro may miss.

Terry did my last UOA on ASL 5w30 and the results were very impressive. He said that I could go as long as 20,000KM with my numbers... I will try 15,000KM first after I finish doing an ARX treatment with PP. Then I will run ASL again for a few changes and then do another UOA at 15,000KM to see what the numbers are like.

He's a good guy and the reports he puts together for you are very impressive. I like that he sends you a MP3 with him talking about your report. He also considers your first purchase a membership to his "Customer for life" club and will answer any questions you have at anytime... I have asked him all kinds of stuff... He is now running his own private blog that you can sign-up for and their is some really great information on there... Can't talk about it though, part of the agreement when you sign-up. But it's worth the money in my opinion...

I think they are a good company that stands behind their products which are great products to say the least. I'm very happy with their performance and their Canadian warehouse isn't far from some of the areas I work in when I'm on the road so I can pick it up. I like it and I like their filters too... Mobil-1 does make a really good oil and I would use it without hesitation, but I like what I see from Amsoil and feel good about supporting the smaller guys. Just my decision, and everyone is welcome to feel differently.

Oh I know.. I just like to watch the bickering... Whether its fun or the people are serious... It's neat to watch. I post -->

every once and a while for a joke...

I see your movie theater reutine now and again. I don't understand how some take this so personal. I don't get upset when someone criticizes an oil brand that my employer owns. Nor does Johnny get bent out of shape when Penzzoil gets a bad review..but mention that Mobil 1 may not be up to par and you raise some hackles.

I like Mobil-1 I don't use it because I think Amsoil works better in my application... But it is a good oil and I leave it at that... Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but people need to learn not to get so worked up over it... A good debate is fine, but some of the mud-slinging that goes on isn't necessary...

"Well when Mobil 1 5w30 makes more cam wear" is scoffed as easily as Pennzoil causes sludge/waxy buid up" I will take it as banter. The defensiveness raises a brow. If the product is so great it does not need a group to defend its honor, even against outragous myths and inuendo. Just a simple correction and move on. When You have a dedicated defense team on BITOG I wonder why such a big multinational super rich corporation needs such a vigorous defense on an insignificant consumer board such as BITOG.

Did it ever dawn on you that the "vigorous defense" is aimed at keeping non-professionals from ruining the credibility of this board with ill-founded, speculative, and even ridiculous postings from people who know next to nothing?

Some of the things being posted based on some overheated advertising claims recently border on bizarre.
