Hey guys. I have been reading from your web site for some time. I just got registered because I had to post an email response I recieved from Mobil oil today.
I asked them about Valvoline's claims and mentioned from what I have researched oils like Pennz Platinum and Valvoline are producing the same or better wear numbers then Mobil 1. Apparently mobil oil is not to thrilled about the new valvoline message. THought I would share Mobil oils response

"Thank you for your inquiry,

What are you basing that Mobil1 motor oils have higher wear numbers
then the competitor's that you state? Do you have oil analysis that you
can provide? Have you, yourself performed oil analysis or come to this
conclusion. The internet discussion that you seem to read and view is
just gossip!! Mobil1 motor oils provide better overall protection and
performance than all motor oils in the marketplace.

Thank you for choosing ExxonMobil products.
If you need further assistance, please contact ExxonMobil at 1-800-ASK-MOBIL

-Matt Jacob "

BTW. I have an 09 Toyota corolla. I have used Mobil 1 and Pennz in the past. But this last oil change I put some Valvoline synpower in it. You guys do an awsome job here, I have learned so much.

YES! The internet discussion you read and view is gossip, but Mobil's response about how their oils are the best and perform better than everything else really provides us with details and not just generalizations. LOL

What a load.

Sounds like Matt Jacob has been on the BITOG forums. Those are typical BITOG questions when anyone claims any oil is better than Mobil1.

Since when does Mobil care about UOAs and engine wear? Don't they typically state something along the lines of... Mobil1 is the number 1 selling synthetic oil. A whole lotta people buy it and therefore our oil is the best.

Oh yeah, I did forget to mention that I have read about UOA reports from BITOG. Hmmm, ruffled some feathers ehhh?

Oh yeah, I already gave him this web site. When I sent a reply back to his email. He never did write me back the second time when I showed him how Valvoline had the independent testing done. Have you guys gone to the Mobil 1 web site. In the question answer section they kind of address this issue. It states something like We want the proof from valvoline on this matter. Kind of entertaining. Im with you guys, why should I pay 4 or 5 bucks more a gallon for Mobil 1 when I can get good results from Penn or Valvoline synpower.

BECAUSE MOBIL 1 IS THE OFFICIAL SPONSOR OF NASCAR!

ok, and don't tell no one, but I did add a tiny bit of Vav Synpower oil treatment to the 5 qts of oil. I just couldn't help myself. I bought it 50% off at Murrays Auto on the clearance rack.

Boy, how tragic that somebody who represents a particular manufacturer of a product actually feels that product is the best!

God forbid, he works for EM and actually feels (after all, there ARE plenty of UOA's that show oils like Delvac 1, TDT, 0w40 ARE close to, if not THE best readily available oils in their grades) that their products OVERALL (he used that word) offer the best protection.

Clearly he should be representing Exxon-Mobil and telling people that Royal Purple is vastly superior right?

I'm quite certain that some people make a mess in their pants with excitement every time a Mobil 1 bash-fest gets under way. Quite tragic really.

I'm not sure how contacting a particular manufacturer, and getting what I would classify as a typical response from the representatives of said manufacturer has accomplished other than starting the M1 bash-train in motion....... yet again.

If your talking about the original poster, says he is a barber in MI. I believe Matt works for Exxon-Mobil in the tech department. But I could be totally wrong.

Hey, no one is bashing him for thinking the product he's representing is the best. I'm bashing him for asking the OP for evidence regarding the wear tests yet he uses generalizations and providing NO evidence himself that Mobil 1 is the best.

I find it ironic. I can [censored] in a bottle and say it's the best motor oil out there. But if I want to say that, eventually I'd have to back it up with proof rather than stuff like "MOBIL 1 IS TEH BEST!!! AND PROTECTZ TEH BEST!"

Perhaps they should arm their representatives with information that is pertinent. You know, since they actually REPRESENT the company. Instead of making excuses for "typical" responses from these guys, why can't they be held to their word? Perhaps they should be providing more information on products they rep. Certainly not all customers are stupid.

I would imagine they feel the veritable plethora of manufacturer certifications, recommendations as well as approvals speaks for itself in this regard? Exxon-Mobil quite likely spends more money on getting their various oil formulae tested and certified than many of the smaller oil companies spend on R&D for their entire product line!!

Does this make it a superior product? I don't know. But I imagine this fits into why they represent their product the way they do.

Matt does indeed work for EM. I asked him a question a while back about their basestocks and got nowhere. Of course he's going to say Mobil 1 products are the best and posted UOAs are just bunk. What do you expect him to say? He is a company man! He's paid to say that stuff. The only thing that bugs me is that he encourages questions then basically refuses to answer them.

If I were into the uoa stuff, I'd be faxing quite a few Mr.Jacobs's way. If they can make the bold claim that their oil is the best then the public has every right to send them evidence to the contrary.

Why would ExxonMobil give a hoot about what's the best synthetic oil?

ExxonMobil measures profits in the BILLIONS every year.

What do they care if the oil is the best, when they bring in hundred dollar bills by the truckload. They could make the WORST synthetic oil and still make billions.

Well ASUS is the world's largest motherboard manufacturer; both retail and OEM. They sell TWICE as many boards as their nearest competitor.

Yet I know first-hand that they DO in fact care that their boards are the best and DO strive to make sure that that is the reality all the time.

Just because a company is the largest, and makes ridiculous money, does not mean they do not care about the quality of the product they sell.
