Hello BITOGers,
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado and plan on changing the ATF soon. The truck gets most miles in the winter and sits outside so I am looking for a high VI to help cold shifting and warmup fuel economy. I live in the mountains of southern Oregon and in the winter low temps average 10-20 degrees with occasional sub zero temps. The truck only gets about 6000 miles a year so I am not really concerned with getting 100K miles out of the fluid.
Both the Synthetic and semisynthetic Mobil have a 100 degree C viscosity of 7.4, but the semisynthetic has a VI of 193 vs the full synthetic VI of 176. DEX VI is 5.8 at 100 but only has a VI of 145, AMSOIL is 6.8 at 100 with a VI of 172.
Is there any reason to prefer the M-1 full synthetic? How about DEX VI or AMSOIL? Your thoughts are welcome.
Thanks,
Guy o
