$4.50/qt by the case when Costco has their $10 coupon once per quarter.

If you have no benchmarks whatsoever, trust it to 7500. If you can prove via UOAs that you can stretch beyond that, well, then, you create your own experiment. .

I looked at buying a 2008 Renault with a 2.2 turbo diesel engine. The owner did a lot of highway miles and the dealer settled for 20,000km or 6 months oil serveces with M1 5w30. The car had done 200,000km when I looked at it and it appeared to be in fine condition. No sludge, no oil leaks. I was happy to buy it.

Thats exactly what I did (except I used the M1 EP version).

I just ran M1 Extended ( the one with the gold label/cap) 2000 miles past my MM on my Honda Pilot. I had a M1 filter on there so total milage was 7500 or so, I hope I didnt mess things up .

I now have Pennzoil Ultra ( which I really hope you guys are right about Pennzoil not sludguing anymore) and a Bosch D+.

I will dump that oil after a month and put in fresh Pennzoil Ultra to make up for going too far past the MM on my last OCI.

7500Mi on M1, 99.9% time not a issue, I would not shorten the next OCI because of a extra 2K mi...

I run M1 0w40 6,200 miles (10,000Km) in my M5. Nowhere near the limit for the lubricant, simply a psychological barrier.

I run around 7500. last run was 8000. would feel ok with once a year = 11,000 but want to be cautious since my Nissan eats oil.

0W40 for me. I saw glimpses of jugs online, need to investigate actual stores. I am currently very stocked up from auto part store deals.

Hot_Ajax,

If you have an OLM like I do I run mine until the monitor tells me to change it. Usually for me it's about 6K. I wouldn't change it any sooner would be a waste based on the high expense of this oil.

I usually run 7500 miles on my toyotas.
Mobil 1 is rated ACEA A5 for extended drains so I am sure it is capable of going further than 7500, but just not sure to what point.

Since toyota said 7500 is good, I just stick with the OEM recomendation. That gets me 6-8 months between OCI's.

I have used M1 since it came out back in the mid 1970's. Then, it was said to be good for one year or 25,000 miles. I took them at their word, and since then, I have did a one year OCI, regardless of the miles. Until I retired back in 2001, my yearly mileage was 18,000 to 20,000. My cars usually required a couple of quarts of makeup oil in 20,000 miles. Never, ever, had an engine issue.

Now, I am retired and 75 years old, and I drive about 9,000 miles a year. My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, purchased new, does not require any oil addition in 9,000 miles. The owner's manual says it is OK to use 5W30, 10W30, or 10W40, with a preference for 5W30. For the last couple of years I have used M1 0W40.

I use M1 EP 5W30 in my F150. I go about 15k between changes with a filter change and makeup oil around 7.5k. No issues to date with 193k miles on the meter.

My last batch of M1 was 10-30HM; I ran it with a Pure One filter for ~10K. My Honda is notoriously 'easy' on oil, and I've seen enough UOA to know that the TBN, etc. will be fine. The slow rate at which the oil darkens suggests that insoluble particles, etc. will not be an issue either.

This was with 1 qt total of make-up, added 1/2 qt at a time.

That said, if I had a known 'Sludge Monster' car, I'd be much more conservative.
