I had no idea there was another Mobil filter besides the Mobil 1.
Of course these are Champ Labs manufacture as well, but Ecore design.

I stumbled on a picture of one on the internet, and was curious about them, so I called the Mobil 1 hotline on their filter page. The guy told me that as far as he knew they were only available at Mobil Express Lubes. There is one around here so I dropped in and asked if they sold those filters without service, and he said, "sure" and went down to the pit and grabbed the one I wanted. I had previosly gotten the part number from showmetheparts.com.

One for my collection.

(Now if I could just find the elusive, yellow Pennzoil filter...)

I had some similar one's I picked up several years ago, from a Mobil Oil distributor in Valparaiso, IN. The cost me under $2 each, as I purchased 10 at one time. They were labeled as made by Purolator, and were white. The coding (model#) followed the same system it appears. They must have changed obviously. The images look like a 'Champ' labeled filter.

I gave about $6 for it. I could have got a Supertech for cheaper, but I wanted a Mobil Clean filter for my filter shelf in the garage.

The endcap is a classic E-Core design, you have a base plate over a base plate. The insides are probably E-Core.

It's an Ecore all right--Has the plastic cage. So I don't think I'll cut it open because I like it there on my shelf with the other oddities. That makes sense since the high end Mobil 1 filters are built to their spec by Champion Labs using the K&N style construction, so it makes sense to me that they would also use the same maker to build their service shop grade filters.

More and less blurry pictures:

Can't tell in the pic (and I'm also mildly color-blind) but is it an identical blue color like the STP beside it? Same filter, different sticker?

Yes, as far as I can tell. I think it is just an STP blue Ecore with a Mobil Clean sticker.
It would be interesting to read a box, but it came to me unboxed and no wrapping at all.

Makes me think, now that Mobil Clean has been replaced by Mobil Super, will they--or have they already--rename(d) the newest service shop grade filters the same?

Most lube shop filters come in case box size with like 12 filters in one box. You will not find a individual small box for it.

I was also thinking the same thing.
