Anybody using Mobil 5000 5w30? Just got some at Wally World for $11 a jug which is really reasonable. Just wondering how it performs.

Great, its a very good oil. Especially for the price. Ive ran it in a few vehicles.

I used some in my friends Volvo V70 GLT recently. It seemed fine.
We used it because his dad told him that PYB was no good and caused sludge. I told him it is an EXCELLENT oil. Alas he would not here it. So I went with the Mobil Clean 5000, as they use it at my local Volvo Dealer. He ran it for 5k with no problems.
I think he is running it again for this change. Not sure though, as he changed it this last time.

I just put it my Caravan this past weekend and it's going good. I got 5 Qts. and a Purolator filter for $11.99 at AA.

Check out some of the UOAs that have been done on Mobil 5000, they look good.

It works great in my daughter's 1999 Honda Accord. Her car consumed some QS, less with the 5000. Great fuel mileage with 5000 also.

In 40 years of owning and maintaining many cars (my family has 5 now)and boats, this is the only time I have ever noticed an operational difference between motor oils.

Good mileage and power and response early on in my Yaris (<10K mi)but I went to a "synthetic" to solve cam chain tensioner sticking during late break-in that I had on PYB.

That oil worked out very well for me in my Ecotec 4 banger. I ran it for a little over 6000 miles and wear levels were great (check the UOA forum for my UOA on this oil).

The only issue I had was that it sheared and made the valvetrain noisy - but despite being thin, it still provided adequate protection for my engine and could have probably ran at least 1000-2000 more miles based on wear numbers and remaining moly/zinc.

it is going in my ram 3.7 next oci. i am using motorcraft right now.

i used MC5000 once before and thought it gave much better throttle response than the PP i had previously.

i want to see if there is a difference compared to the motorcraft (plus 11.00 for 5qts is hard to beat)

Mobil 5000 and Castrol Synthetic Blend where the only two oils I ever tried that my Dodge Dakota drank like water. I tried them in my Toyota 4Runner at the time and it drank them as well so I went through the two cases in one oil change interval and never used either again. THe Castrol BVLend was much worse then the Mobil 5000 but I was not impressed with either of them. Mind you this was back in 2003 or 2004 so they might have changed but I was never impressed. On the other hand I have a friend that bought about 100 case's for about $4 a case on clearance from AutoZone about 6 years ago and that is all he use's and he has always been happy with it.

That's weird because I've never experienced any consumption in either Mobil Clean 5000 or Syntec Blend. I'm using Syntec Blend in my car right now and I've been driving it very hard, not a drop of consumption yet. Still nice and clear looking even after over 1,000 miles of hard driving.

I bought my Dads 1988 suburban with 150,000 miles on it and he only used mobil dino oil and changed every 3,000 miles. I did the same thing until MC5000 came out many years ago and now I change it every 5,000 miles. Today this suburban has 288,000 miles on it and it uses maybe 1/2 a quart in 5,000 miles, runs like a champ, does not have any lifter noise, knocks, pings ect ect ect! This is the original motor and it has never had to be taken apart for anything. I drive this truck hard, towing a 30' travel trailer, 4x4ing in mud and trails, snow plow with it!

I used it in my Wifes 2000 Bravada since we got it but now I am going to switch over to Mobil 1 EP just because she drives 25,000 miles a year and change it every 6 months. Her truck does not use a drop of oil in 5,000 miles so we will see how the Mobil 1 EP works in a long term test because that is all I am ever going to use in it from now on. It has 110,000 miles on it right now. I will post back in 4 years when it has 210,000 and let all the oil guys know if it is burning any oil...lol!

GMFan,

There's someone else, can't remember which of 2 people, who runs this oil and has reduced oil consumption.

BTW: I have the same Saturn as you.

Stuck ring stack and/or PCV problems - they go together and increase oil consumption. Almost every engine I've pulled apart for rebuild has had varnished and toasted OC and #2 ring lands - except mine

of course this was years ago on SE and SF oils.
