Mobil 5000 or PYB?

I have been running Mobil 5000 conventional in my truck since last year when Walmart had it on rollback for $12 / 5qts. My stash, as of last week, is now completely gone and Im looking to try a new conventional oil. My truck isn't picky and it doesn't burn or leak any oil whatsoever (knock on wood!) It doesn't HAVE to be conventional, but I typically use it in my truck instead of synthetic because I change my oil so often. I have used semi-synthetics (Motorcraft) and full synthetics (Napa or Mobil 1) in the past. But 3-5k mile OCIs typically arent cost effective for the full synthetic oils. The question is, which one is better, the Mobil or Pennzoil? After looking at the PQIA website, they seem to be a pretty even match. What do you guys think? Or is there some other conventional you prefer?

Use whatever is cheaper when you need it. They are both fine oils.

I personally would go for Pennzoil conventional. my car and truck have it in them right now. a couple -47 degree starts without the block heaters. Great used oil analysis for days out there. It's also easier to find in general and on sale. In Canada at least.

Where Im at in Texas, Walmart always has sales and a "cold start" would be no less than 40 degrees. I dont think it ever gets cold enough down here to even warrant a multi viscocity oil. I could definetely run straight 30 weight and be fine.

I don't know about your area but here Quaker State Conventional is on sale at K-mart for $13.00 for a 5 qt. jug

I haven't used conventional for a long time but I used to use Chevron or Havoline (now Chevron/Havoline) all the time as it was well priced and worked great.

Bitog member 2010_ FX4 has used Mobil Super 5000 for up to 10K miles (see series of UOA below) with fabulous results. No such thing as better though. Pennzoil Conventional is also fantastic. One uses lots of Molybdenum as part of it's additive pkg (Pennzoil conventional) and the other uses Sodium (Mobil Super 5000). Its a good choice to have.

No Kmarts around here. They pulled out of this region in the late 90s

Everything looked good on my used oil analysis for Mobil 5000 also. But after 10k miles his TBN looked pretty low!

K-marts are rip offs usually i had to double check the ad because it seemed too good to be true from K-mart

Both are good oils. However I would also go for Pennzoil conventional, iv been using Mobil 5000 in the wife's '06 Taurus and while it works I'm not really pleased with it. It wasn't until I found out she's been going 8-10k on conventional did I step in and start changing it myself. She wanted the Mobil 5000 since the place that did it used that type but it just seems loud. Not only that the oils does not get very dark (I know that doesn't determine how effective oil is) but it just doesn't get that dark.

I plan on taking the valve cover off. I can only image how long she's been doing 8-10k on conventional. The engine doesn't seem to smooth either. I'm certain there will be build up.

You are itching to try something new, so try the Pennzoil conventional. Both are excellent.

Mobil Super 5000 for me, this board is full of pennzoil lovers, if you ask any question that includes Pennzoil conventional on this site at least 75% of people will tell you to use Pennzoil conventional lol

Wife does a lot of city driving. I dont have any pictures as I haven't taken the valve cover off but I do have a nice picture of my sons '02 explorer sports trak with 179k. Replaced the valve cover gasket last month. I only took a picture because I was very impressed. Not even slight varnish. Picture doesn't do it justice.
