This seems to be a regular topic here. I emailed XOM to ask about it.

BMW/Mini JWS 3309

Are these all the same fluid? Im trying to determine if Mobil 3309 and Toyota T-IV are the same fulid, or just compatible.

And their response:

I hope this helps someone.

Its actually cheaper for me to go to the local Toyota dealer than it is to get a case of Mobil 3309 off Amazon. Lol.

Its worth calling around before purchasing.

*I wonder if my friend, who owns a new Toyota truck, could get me some even cheaper??

I get Toyota WS for about $88-92 for a case of 12 from my local dealers. One sold me 3 cases for $225 once several years back. I made a joke at one dealer and asked him if they gave me my "clergy discount". Then next time I went in there a tech was writing up a parts order and the same guy comes out and tells him "he gets 15% off"

I have Quaker state ultimate ATF from Menards that states JW 3309 on the back, same thing with my Pennzoil syn ATF.

Is / can this be a universal ATF, meaning is it a good enough fluid to use in other applications? I have a Honda Odyssey, and the Mobil 3309 is pretty reasonably priced. Just wondering if there is any benefits to using this fluid, or what specific traits or attributes it has that makes it different than your run-of-the-mill Dex III.

I'm working from memory, but I believe it's been once posted the viscosity ranges don't overlap between Mobil 3309 and Dex III. Can someone verify?
