Mobil 1 to Motul 300v

I have heard a few tales about ester swelling seals. Now as I understand it Mobil 1 has some ester with the PAO and Motul 300V is double ester, so if I wanted to move from M1 to Motul 300V, would the double ester cause trouble and in particular if I went off it and back to a PAO/ESTER oil like Mobil 1 would the seal swell reduce and thereby give me a leaky motor?

Use 300V with confidence. If you have leaks then fix them. The oil chemistry should not be adjusted for leaky engines but leaky engines fixed so you can run the appropriate chemistry.

Hi Terry, thanks for the response, my car does not have leaks, however my question is what are the chances that moving to Motul 300v from Mobil 1 willcause the seals to swell up and leak, or if I then move off the Motul back to say M1 and the seals leak?

My feeling is that the Motul engineers aren't dumb enough to make an oil that would cause leaks in a motor, els word would spread and no1 would use it...a bit like the original Mobil 1 and its affect on seals.

Try it and see if it leaks. If it's not an old engine, it probably won't have a problem. If it does, stop using it and the problem will go away as the swelling subsides.
I'm not giving you the "It will be fine story" because I have had a problem with Redline motor oil and transmission oil in the past so I know in rare cases, weird stuff can happen with high-content ester oils.

JHZR2, this may be illegal to post but ecodetuning.com sells Motul 0W-40 for a very good price. Type Motul in the seach at the bottom of the page. 300V oils are way more expensive and don't know the best place for them.
