This is not a post about which oil is best among the Mobil 1 line. Mobil 1 oils are all a blend of III/IV/V base oils and all are excellent.

The Mobil 1 oil with the hightest PAO content appears their EP 0w20 at 60-70%.

I'd like to know the NOACK volatility of this oil.

I'd guess the ESP 5w30 with a NOACK of 5.6% is also up there.

Links to source material are often good. It's not real credible so simply spit out numbers, especially when we know that much of them are considered trade secrets or at least are not readily handed out.

True. I was going off of the MSDS.

Do you know what the ester percentage is in Red Line by comparison?

Are you referring to the charts that show their blending recommendations?

Not sure but I know they used the wording "ultra" high end base oils for that grade, which to me signifies Group V and mPao. Percentages will never been known.

Who cares? Isn't it performance that you're looking for. I think a lot of those details are not for publication. Even MSDS data can be misleading and sometimes not updated as source availability changes and substitutions are made.

These modern 0w-40 synthetic oils by the major players may just be the best oil ever made available for public consumption at the price for which they sell. If it were not for CAFE and the EPA I would bet that almost every new car on the market would be running this 0w-40 synthetic oil in almost any weather conditions.

Engine oil is a small part of my total cost of ownership that I picked one brand of oil, not the cheapest, that I've used in other applications because I have a good source at a great price and so far it's performing well and I'm sticking with it.

Depends on which MSDS you go by, LOL! The German one shows 50-60% PAO IIRC.

EP 0w20.

Only reason I brought this up was bc the oils with the highest PAO content do have the lowest NOACK volatility, which for DI engines is important.

Reality is though only so much can be known from a MSDS.

Thanks. I'll pass that info on to my brother who has a new 3,although he will most likely take it to the dealer for service.

Remember there is always more blow by products than there ever will be oil that is evaporated.
