I put less than 5000 miles on the car each year. Oil change annually regardless miles, but is it okay to change the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter every other year since the milage is so low?

Yes

Yes it was, but there's no information anywhere how long it can be left in the engine. I am wondering that soaking in engine oil experiencing many hot and cold cycles might deteriorate adhesive used to secure filter media just enough to make it prone to separation?

2 years should be fine. Seen many filters cut open that where on a car in your same situation, and they looked fine - no deterioration. And since the M1 is synthetic media, it should be even better to withstand this usage.

Ummm...the box reads "synthetic fiber blend filter element", so it's not full synthetic. But anyway, I am going to reuse it, never did that before. I will cut it open next year, hope it hold up.

Is it this one?
https://mobiloil.com/en/oil-filters/performance-oil-filters

It just says: "Our advanced performance oil filters use synthetic fibers."

They don't say anything about a "blend", so makes it sound like a full synthetic. At any rate, it's up to the task you want it to perform.

It says "blend" on the filter box. Not sure if they upgraded the product or just trying to be vague now. The filer in question is a M1-110 that I bought back in 2013.

No

Every other year probably not a problem as long as you are getting the oil hot every once in a while. Moisture would be the only concern in this situation.

I was always under the impression a full synthetic filter would have to be wire backed because the fibers cant stand alone.

From my understanding, Mobil 1, Bosch D+, P1 and TG are all examples of blended media filters.

Oil and filters dont seem to care about age whatsoever. As said, just allow to get the oil hot on a regular basis and you will be fine.

***With my experience, I removed a Mobil 1 filter off my dads Jeep truck last spring which looked great. No waves whatsoever. It was in use for about 5 years. I know this because he had to special order the filter at Oreillys, but they accidentally gave him a case of 12 rather than 1. (They are the older styled Mobil 1 box too.) The parts guy said he could go ahead and have the case for the price of 1 filter. We not have 10 filters left since I used one last spring for the last OCI. The oil maybe had 5k on it in that time.. Whenever he gets it out, it sees nothing but highway miles to the lake house.

While you probably could another $10 to your annual vehicle cost should not be a big deal. I would be more concerned about not remembering correctly and leaving it on for several years years.

The story was a little embarrassing. I actually forgot to buy a new filter and found it out after I drained oil and ready to replaced the filter. I put in new oil thinking if I could get away with using the same Mobil 1 filter for two OCIs. there's about 1/4 quart of dirty oil in the engine from the old filter anyway, a new filter won't change that. If the filter is not an issue, it just saved me from getting hand dirty again having to replace it. Most replies sound positive as far as the quality of Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter goes. I may just leave it in this time.

Do you mind to elaborate? Are you saying moisture is going to rust the filter?

I don't drive the car in question often, but when the engine is started, it usually runs for at least 10 miles, not exactly short trips. I am actually more concerned about whether the filter media can hold up for longer term as there are many cases of bad filters with torn media on the Web.

The general consensus on this site is that moisture has some effect on the filter media and is the "cause" of wavy pleats.

Yes, two year interval is fine.
I prefer to loosen the oil filter, remove and drain it - then oil the gasket once again and reinstall it.

The idea is to save money and still have optimal performance levels from your existing upper-shelf oil filter.
You are also being green-conscious, by preserving our garbage dumping grounds. For so few people (less than 2%) recycle oil filters.

Here in Michigan using that same filter between years 2-3 can produce significant rust, for Michigan uses road salt in winters. Been there - done and tried that, but not anymore..... two years is my limit.
