Friend moved back home but left her car here for work when she comes in once a month for 3-4 days.

El Paso, TX so that gives you an idea of the weather.

Was thinking about about going with Mobil 1 extended performance oil with a M1 filter. Car will sit for days and maybe weeks at a time before being driven unless I take it out to drive.

Car is a 2013 Nissan Versa, I believe it has the 1.6L in there. 5w30 is what it calls for, which I thought was pretty heavy for a 4 cylinder but I'll put what the cap says to put in.

Her husband was going to send her to the dealer to change the oil but I said I'll do it so she doesn't get the upsell pressure on everything.

Why would 5w30 be heavy for a 4 cyl? M! The M1 oil and filter is overkill. How many miles per year will rge car get driven?

If the car isn't driven much then I don't see the need for the extra TBN of the M1 EP. I would just use the regular M1 5W30 and change it once a year. Job done.

Nothing wrong with M1 oil and a M1 filter, a good solid combo.

You could also consider Castrol Magnatec 5w30 (semi-syn) as it has an additive that clings to the metal surfaces and resists drain down. This may help if the car is parked for weeks on end. But battery and tires would be my biggest concern.

BTW I think 5W30 is a fine oil grade for a 4 cyl car.

Should be no issue with a bit heavier oil as El Paso has no winter like or real fall like weather for that matter. The car if driven a few days a month should keep the battery up but a cheap solar panel may address bleed that there may be. Or a simple drive for 30 miles once a week. Some tire covers to keep the sun from baking them to carbon is not parked in the shade and window reflector to shade the interior.
