Is Mobil 1 "Synthetic ATF Multi-vehicle Formula - MERCON V" ok to use in an older Toyota where the owners manual specifies Dexron II? One of the bullet points on the back of the bottle says "recommended for use in 2005 and earlier GM vehicles" but then goes on to state "Mobil DEXRON-VI ATF is recommended for 2006 and newer GM vehicles and improved performance in 2005 and earlier GM vehicles, wherever DEXRON is specified". When I bought this stuff, I took the above verbage to mean that this was ok for applications that called for pre DEXRON-VI flavors of DEXRON like II and III, but after some searching on the web I'm more confused than ever. I found this page following links off the Mobil 1 rewards site: http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_1_Synthetic_ATF.aspx, but I'm not certain it is the same stuff I have. The bottle in the picture at that link has a silver cap whereas the one I've got has a black cap. The bottle in the picture also has a NASCAR logo where the stuff I have says "MERCON V" in bold black print.
I thought I had seen a thread where someone specifically recommended using MERCON V for applications that called for DEXRON II or III, but I cannot find it anymore. The MERCON V bottle I have has no mention of Toyota at all, and the page at the link above only mentions T-III and T-IV. Do any of you guys have old Toyotas that spec DEXRON II? What are you using?

The answer is "yes".

The Mercon V spec can be used to replace Dexron II.

It really doesn't matter whether you have the current Mobil 1 ATF which specifies it replaces Dexron, Mercon, and so on or the newer version which recommends it to replace Toyota T-IV etc.

Either one will replace Dexron II.
