Personally, I think of it as Mobil perhaps resting a bit on their laurels. Their normal API/ILSAC offerings exceeded the specifications they claim by a good margin for a fairly long period of time. Things like dexos1 certification would have been a formality rather than much of an actual process.
They still offer extended OCIs, a warranty without too many bizarre loopholes, and have excellent availability.
