NO. 4 ball wear is an ASTM test. It's somewhat repeatable. It is correlative to point wear which admittedly is not a frequent occurrence in ICE's. In some ways it is tougher than engine situations, in some ways it isn't.

The "long arm" machines are the real joke.

I'm assuming you mean "call out" as in what BP did to Royal Purple. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No one can do that because Amsoil never explicitly makes the claim that the test corresponds to engine wear. They just say "Here's this test. Our oils do better on it. Also, they can protect your engine." Nothing false or misleading there, at least as far as the lawyers are concerned...


Antics with semantics I guess. If the test has no validity with engine oil, then it should not be allowed in an ad. I guess all companies work things to make them look better than the competition even though the tests are sometimes totally useless. I like the product, my father uses it, but I find it hard to respect a company when they use these misleading tests to lure in uninformed people. But that's business I guess!

For Amsoil it does for Mobil it doesn't, and a lot of members are claiming it has no bearing either. Who do you believe?

Because by making that statement they are digging on Amsoil. (IE Amsoil is as good as bleach)

If they are not posting about their flavor of oil they are digging on any other oil that is not theirs.

Same with brands of vehicles. Toyota vs Honda, Ford vs Chevy, dogs vs cats...

There has to be a way to keep up with you guys for message counts!

The add pack itself?

Comparing add packs in the same base oil?

Either way, what exactly is the correlation? We can't even reliably predict the properties of a finished oil from the base stock. How are we to make reliable predictions based on one characteristic of the add pack?

That's another link in the chain, but it's not the whole chain. Connect the dots for us.
 
What motor oil fails the test and what is pass fail for the test for motor oil. Could the Amsoil experts tell all.

Some industrial gear lubricants that have good extreme pressure properties may not be effective in reducing wear rates at lower loads.1

Yep - right up there with those guys lighting hoods on fire to prove a wax is durable. Truth is the alcohol burns fast and doesn't generate any heat at all to damage the paint. Clueless people still buy into that junk wax.

As buster shows in his quote, there is no pass/fail. The tests are for evaluation. Someone comparing ASTM tests to "guys lighting hoods on fire to prove a wax is durable" is demonstrating they are not so knowledgeable.

It seems to get harder and harder every year to educate you newbs!! Why not listen to the guys that have been here for years and who have significantly more experience?

I've been here over 3 years and have barely a fraction of the knowledge Pablo, Bill, Buster, etc, have.

If you want to troll, moan, or play "my-fav-flavor-boy", do it on another forum where it might pass for intellectual discussion
