Mobil 1 HM is SL Rated?

Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage and 10-30High Mileage are SL rated. Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 is SN,SM, and SL rated. Typically High Mileage oils are for older engines with high miles that have been abused in their OCIs and may have sludge deposites. Also the High Mileage oil has more seal conditioners. Mobil 1 High Mileage oils also have higher ZDDP than their non High Mileage cousins.

Because after SL they started placing limits on the "good stuff" by putting a maximum amounts allowed for additives, all of which are what make Mobil 1 High Mileage so good, the base oils are likely the same that go into the oil now (SN), but the add pack is way stronger, too strong to be SN rated.
SL just means extra zinc and phosphorous. 1000 ppm phosphorous and 1100 ppm zinc according to mobil.
Also i don't mean to hijack your thread, but does anyone here think using Mobil 1 High Mileage in a newer engine, whether it be a car or lawnmower, would be a bad idea? I'm curious if the seal "conditioners" or swellers or whatever would have a detrimental effect on new rubber seals. (premature swelling, wearing, idk)

If you don't need it, don't use it.
I have used it in low mileage cars and they seemed to run great. Great add pack in a high quality syn oil. Go ahead and use it knowing that you are using an excellent motor oil. $23 at Walmart.
Just saw it a few days ago for $23 in WI... Amazing how its priced different depending on where you live.
C4Dave, do a search on this site and you will find many posts about how good this oil really is. I have used many oils and currently have this in a few classic cars and also in a newer 10K mileage car. I also use PP in numerous vehicles.

Let me put in my 2 cents re; this oil. I have been going back and forth in my head about trying it because it has an 11.7 cst (which is on the thick side) And when I tried GC 0W30 in my RX it was smooth, but really lacked cold engine performance (very sluggish) So I finally gave the HM a run,and I couldnt be happier! The motor is as smooth as glass. At an idle I cant even hear the engine running anymore. Very good performance whether the motor is hot or cold. Higher revs i.e merging in traffic etc. are the smoothist it has ever been! I finally found the oil I`m going to stay with (in this vehicle anyway) that is as long as i can get it. Oh,and my fuel millage actually went up .5 miles to the gallon!
