I have 2 cars that spec. 5W-20, one has 40,000 miles, and I have been useing Amsoil XL at 7500 mile oci. This car is off warranty, would Mobil 1 Extended Performance at 10,000 mile oci be a better choice. They are about the same price. My othe car is still under warranty with 7000 miles, so 5000 mile oci for this one, p.s. it is expected to get double digits below zero tonight, so i would like to use syn. oil in both. yor comments welcome Thanks

It's a good oil, but over priced unless you plan on running it past 10k miles. The XL line is a better buy IMO and a very good oil. You could probably do 10k miles on the XL line with no problem, however you should test it. Did they have it in the 5qt jugs? It's very tempting to use the M1 being it is so readily available.
If you need something quick why not look for some 0-5w20 Pennzoil Platinum? Around here it's $2.50/qt less expensive than Mobil 1 Extended Performance. It certainly is capable of going 5,000 miles. As far as the other dilemma, I believe it would still be more economical to stick with the Amsoil XL 5w20.
I noticed my local Walmart has replaced 15W50 with 5W20.

Yes it was at Wal Mart yesterday, only seen it in the quart bottles, I believe it was $6.86 a bottle

Nothing on the mobil 1 web site about a 5w-20 EP? Did they make this earlier and discontinue this viscosity? I know they made a 10w-40 viscosity before and discontinued it.
Are you guys sure this is Mobil 1 Extended Performance and not just M1? I only ask because I have not seen this oil anywhere and no 5W20 EP is listed on the Mobil website.
Yes it was Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w20 , but I was wrong on the price it was $6.46. So what is the differance between the EP and regular Mobil 1 , is it worth the extra $1.50, and is it realy good for 15,000 miles like the bottle says, wish I had some in my Mazda 3 , it's about 11 below zero and my car turned over a little slow.
Have we ever determined what exactly is the difference between regular M1 and Mobil 1 Extended Performance, other than about $2 a quart? I've seen the adds that say EP contains 50% more "Supersyn" (whatever that is) but I still don't know if there's something to this or if it is all a marketing gimick.

i can vouch for Mobil 1 Extended Performance in 5w-20 spotted in North Charleston, SC. Just under $7 a quart, expensive ish.
