Mobil 1 ESP vs Quaker State Full Synthetic

Thank you all for your replies, I've read each one.

Additional info:
- Walmart doesn't have 5W-30 ESP in 5 quart jugs
- I never considered ESP 0W-30, but am leaning that way now
- I'm not just after the best bang for the buck, this was an "attainable dream car" for me so I don't mind spending a bit more to get something better
- These engines do run very hot, especially on track, so a stout oil that deals well with high temperature and loads is important to me, as is a selecting a viscosity that makes sense

Again, leaning ESP 0W-30, seems like a solid choice. Thanks again

Out of the two -- Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 is my pick -- ALL DAY!!!!
Agree, but at night I like QS Ultimate Protection.

Of note, Walmart has QS Full Synthetic for $22.98 and also QS Ultimate Protection for $23.98. Both jugs on shelf. I have the Ultimate protection in my wifes CX-5 right now with another jug ready to go into my Mazda 3 shortly.

~5k mile OCI

Manual calls for 0W-20, but I'm looking at 5W-30s to keep oil pressure healthy.

ESP is a bit more expensive and harder to get (I don't live near an AutoZone and would have to buy a bunch for free shipping).

QSFS is easily delivered by Walmart for about as cheap as synthetic oil gets.

Thoughts?
Why not go with Quaker State Euro 5W-40. It has the Acea A3/B4 approval. 5 quart jug at Walmart is: $22.97.
It has HTHS >= 3.5, and it's a full saps oil so it has high amounts of anti-wear additives phosphorous and zinc.

I know it's only $22.97 for a 5 quart jug, but it might be one of the best oils available at any price.

It’s an odd comparison, if you’re really on the fence between ESP and a Quaker State product then I’d consider Quaker State Euro, also available at Walmart for about $5 less. It would be an ancceptable application here.
How does QS Euro compare to M1 ESP wrt approvals?

ESP is equivalent to other blender products that have the same approvals. However, based on UOA etc. ESP line up is generally top of the line.
ESP 0W30 is a far better product than this QS,
What makes ESP a far better product than QS if they have the same approvals? How is that reflected in a UOA?

They don't have the same approvals. QS is a full SAPS "VW 502" oil and ESP 30 is lower SAPS "VW 504" oil.

Wait, you will do track?
Mobil1 0W40 if you going to Wal Mart choice.
Motul X-Cess 5W40, Castrol Edge 0W40, Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W40.
When I do track, XW40 with Porsche A40 approval is only option!

This is good option if vehicle is doing track considering it has Porsche A40 approval.

Interesting. I've found Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 ($28), QS Euro 5W-40 ($23), and Castrol Edge Euro 5W-40 ($25) online at Walmart. These are honestly all very cheap to me so price doesn't really matter. Narrowing it down between these 3 and 0W-30 ESP ($28). Can't seem to find 5W-40 Euro Penzoil Platinum Euro.

Walmart online has it in single quarts for a silly high price, but it makes little difference. The Euro approvals dictate a minimum HT/HS and grades can overlap.

ESP 0W30 is a far better product than this QS, which is an option here. QS does not have anything in the lineup that is on par with this ESP. The only thing that SOPUS has on the US market that is as sophisticated as ESP 0W30 is Pennzoil Platinum 0W30 Euro LX.
As for Honda, it is a tuned GDI engine. ESP 0W30 is the minimum that I would use here. And yes, Honda is known to have oil-related issues: VCM!
I don't think VCM has anything to do with this application. I get that ESP is the superior oil on approvals. The OP has us cogitating the quandary of whether to choose ESP or QSFS. That choice does not make much sense, as these two oils are not that close to each other. Still, we are talking about a very nice Honda powerplant, which is a screamer, but probably spends most of its existence in a low-stressed, overpowered situation. Apart from the weird oil choice question, the OP strikes me as someone who takes good care of his car. We already know that he is committed to 5,000 mile oil changes... and most of us espouse the idea that the best oil is more frequent changes. I just don't think oil choice makes a discernible difference here, even though I am acknowledging the empirical superiority of the Euro oils, I think QSFS would do just fine.

My opinion - No need at all to go into a Euro grade 30, or 40 grade oil (>3.5 HTHS) unless you are seeing oil temps over 270. A regular ILSAC 5w30 with HTHS ~3.1 will be more than sufficient for track use with this vehicle.

In my experience, admittedly which does not involve track time, these engines do not run "very hot."

I have a few buddy's with Type Rs...they run hot like any tuner turbo car on track. 270 will be a certainty if the ambients are warm.
