To be fair to Pennzoil, I received 2 jugs from a walmart ship to home order that were thrown into a large cardboard box with zero support material. They were beaten up, but not a single leak!

Only bottles I've had leak on me recently were Techron.

What spec are Vette owners trying to meet? Dexos 2? MST meets that. It is also readily available, and for less.

It's tricky actually, because the 2019 owner's manual says to use a dexos2 oil of 0w40 viscosity. So the only choice is Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0w40. It does say you can use a dexos1 5w30 as an alternative.

I've sort of split the difference on my 2018 and am going with a dexos2 5w30

Just got in from draining PP EURO LX 0W30 from our Golf R (7500 km run from early November till now; sample sent off to Blackstone's) and replaced with this just acquired case of Mobil1 ESP Formula 0W40.

Oh I see, so it's the 0w40 part. Of course we know here that a Dexos 2 5w40 would also be just fine, but I sure understand not wanting to endanger a warranty.

Looking forward to your UOA! Please do post. Been interested in that oil for my Passat, it's the only VW 504 oil I can even find locally. Fortunately I am allowed 502 or 504, the Atlas guys must use 504.

How about GM's traditional blurb about using a 0w-30 in Arctic conditions?

There is no mention of 0w30 in the 2019 Corvette manual but in my 2018 manual they say 0w30 is allowed for extremely cold conditions (below -20F) Keep in mind, there is no difference in the engine between these years.

No, the price is not pretty good. In fact, it's a rip-off.

You're paying boutique-oil price for a plain Group III oil with a dash of ester -- no PAO, no GTL.

Oil recommendation for this car:

Street use only (except the LT5 engine): 5W-30 dexos1
Street and/or track use: 0W-40 dexos2
Track use only: Mobil 1 15W-50

If I was not racing the car, I would use 5W-30, as it would give better performance (better fuel economy, morse horsepower at a given throttle angle, smoother-running engine) and it's much easier to find. Also, 5W-30 has PAO or GTL, which means higher oil quality. I don't know if you have turbo but you get LSPI protection, too -- something dexos2 doesn't have.

Just put a dexos1 5W-30 (PPPP has about 6% VII and M1 EP has about 13% VII) and a From Ultra and forget about it.

From the 2019 Corvette owner's manual:

Engine Oil
Caution
If the vehicle is used for track
events and competitive driving,
the engine may use more oil than
it would with normal use. Low oil
levels can damage the engine.
Check the oil level often and
maintain the proper level. See
Engine Oil 0 232.
The engine is factory filled with
0W-40 dexos2 oil. For LT1 and LT4
engines only, 0W-40 dexos2 engine
oil is approved for both track and
street use. 15W-50 full synthetic
engine oil may also be used for
track use, but after track use must
be changed back to 0W-40 dexos2
for street use. If 0W-40 dexos2 oil is
not available, 5W-30 dexos1 full
synthetic engine oil may be used for
street use. If 5W-30 dexos1 is used,
it must be changed to 0W-40
dexos2 or 15W-50 full synthetic
engine oil for track use.
For the LT5 engine, SAE 15W-50
full synthetic engine oil must be
used for track use, but after track
use must be changed back to
0W-40 dexos2 for street use.
Z51 Performance Package, Grand
Sport, Z06, and ZR1: Check the oil
level often during track events and
competitive driving and keep the
level at or near 0.5 L (0.5 qt) above
the upper mark that shows the
proper operating range on the
engine oil dipstick. After the
competitive driving, remove excess
oil so that the level on the dipstick is
not above the upper mark that
shows the proper operating range.
Driving and Operating 163
Stingray without Z51 Performance
Package: Additional oil fill above the
upper mark on the dipstick is not
recommended for track events or
other competitive driving. Check the
oil level often during racing or other
competitive driving and keep the
level at or near the upper mark that
shows the proper operating range
on the engine oil dipstick. After the
competitive driving, remove excess
oil so that the level on the dipstick is
not above the upper mark that
shows the proper operating range.
Fuel
LT1 Engine : 93 octane (or higher)
unleaded gasoline is required.
LT4 Engine : 93 octane (or higher)
unleaded gasoline is required.
100 octane (or higher) unleaded
gasoline is recommended at the
track when temperatures are above
30 °C (86 °F) to maximize
powertrain performance and
improve longevity of components
within the powertrain.
LT5 Engine : 93 octane (or higher)
unleaded gasoline is required.
100 octane (or higher) unleaded
gasoline is recommended to
maximize powertrain performance
and improve longevity of
components within the powertrain.
Caution
Some high octane fuels contain
additives and compounds that
may damage the vehicle and void
the vehicle warranty. See
Prohibited Fuels 0 213.
Automatic Transmission Fluid
Transmission fluid should be
changed after every 15 hours of
track usage. Any transmission level
set or change should be performed
at your dealer.
Manual Transmission Fluid
Manual transmission fluid should be
changed after every 15 hours of
track usage.

A C3 0w-30 might be ideal.

Gokhan: Yes, that price still is a bit high from the distributor, but it's expected right now. Until the oil comes in a suitable container size or approved competitors come out with suitable container sizes as well, it's going to be difficult. C3 type oils in sensible container sizes aren't common up here yet. It is happening with Pennzoil (which was late to the party with A3/B4 types in sensible containers), but the others are a little behind. I've seen Castrol C3/dexos2 5w-30 available for a long time, but only in one litre containers.
