Here’s the second oil change on the new engine from my Tundra. Total vehicle mileage was 36,102 miles. It looks like break-in is going well, silicon definitely had a large drop on this change. Thanks for taking a look and any thoughts are welcome!

Why use the good stuff for a short wear-in OCI? Ester may protract wear-in.
Is Mobil Super 5000 5W-20? hard to locate?

OP Jordan, Good luck with the new engine! I must have missed the thread on why the new engine ...
I give it the good stuff right away. Back when I still turned wrenches the Vette’s came from Kentucky filled with TriSyn.

Oh! then it's fine, LOL!

You know, ILSAC RC stuff is no help either, Sort of a quandry. Motorbike oil maybe.
We just use 10W-30 whatever like Chevron 10W-30. And I am no chevron fan. It does wear the engines in faster, LOL

I’ve been interested in trying ESP and figured I might as well start trending it in my engine to see how it will perform. I can’t say that I’ve looked for Mobil Super. I have considered trying Valvoline EP in 5W-30 as well.

Thank you! Hopefully the new engine lasts and has any bugs worked out.

The reason for the new engine was a recall by Toyota for manufacturing debris in the engine. My old engine was running fine when I took it in for the recall, but most of the failures have had little to notice.

Stick to it or any other MB229.5 or MB229.51/52.

I’d like to go with 0W30 or 5W30. I’m stuck with the Toyota prepaid maintenance till 85K. I am doing 5K intervals. I’ll do the 5 and Toyota will do the 10. I’m using M1 EP 0W20 and Toyota will use their bulk oil. I’m hoping it’s the Toyota oil which is made by Mobil.

Unfortunately I can tell you that they're not using TGMO. They are going to be using the cheapest stuff they can get. I've read reports from Toyota techs who have come to work and seen pallets of Supertech and Kirkland signature oil to be used for oil changes.

I’m sure they are.

Toyota TSB have stated in the past that the most recent ILSAC RC approved oil - in the recommended grade "has been set as Toyota genuine engine Oil" (their wording). In 2006 Toyota were moving to ILSAC GF-4 0W-20 in the 2AZFE engine**

No Surprise there as Toyota is part of JAMA and JAMA is on ILSAC - along with 'The Big Three'.

Ok, that's all well and good. I'm just telling you what happens at Toyota dealerships, from what I understand from many reports. Maybe yours is different. I'd watch them pour the oil in next time.

Local Toyota here uses Valvoline.

What that TSB referenced means (in other words) is that any brand of API certified, current ILSAC 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30 can be referred to as: "Toyota genuine engine oil". So that big bulk drum of Amalie or Chevron 5W-30 out back "there you go sir have a nice day!"

I hear you on watching them pour it in - or pump it. My VW dealer a few years ago pulled a fast one on me on a prepaid maintenance package. So now, I am changing the oil on my new trucklet myself. Sadly (for me) it has a huge undertray that requires removal. At least I only do Spring and Fall oil changes with about 2300 miles in between them, now that I am retired and no longer commuting 23,000 miles a year. - Arco
