First oil analysis of my daughter's CX-50. 4,600 miles on oil, 12,000 miles on vehicle. This is MOBIL 1 ESP 0W20. I've run this oil since the first oil change at around 1,400 miles. Filter is MICROGARD SELECT MSL57002. Vehicle is mainly driven city miles of 30 - 40 miles per day. Every other week it goes on a 120 mile round trip for work at interstate speeds (70-80 mph). Some noteworthy observations:
OXIDATION 42.5 ASTM D7414
SILICON 21 ASTM D5185
ACID NUMBER 1.18 ASTM D8045

VISCOSITY AT 100 degrees C 7.6 ASTM D445

Wear numbers look good. Tbn low for only 4600 miles and not short tripped. Surprised at minimal fuel dilution. My Mazda almost always has fuel dilution.

I was under the impression that there is no molybdenum in the ESP formulations. Maybe that has changed

I wonder if could be residual from the OEM Mazda oil (if this UOA is of the first oil change). I believe the Mazda oil is high in moly. And, most of my vehicles have always had smaller amounts of oil exchange during an oil and filter change than the initial fill.

This is from the factory service manual for my Accord w/K24.

That's TAN not TBN.

Everything looks good. This is a low wearing engine. The only thing about these ESP oils are the lower detergent levels. This oil only has 1,557 ppm of ca. as a detergent. So long drains I would not be comfortable with. However with no oxidation and TAN low you're good.

Only ESP 5w30. For some reason they made major changes to that grade. They removed the ester as oxidation is now around 10, virgin. Remains unknown what they're using in that grade.
