Mobil 1 EP in a 1994 Corolla's 4A-FE

I'm running Mobil 1 EP 10W-30 with the Mobil 1 EP filter on my 1994 Corolla with 4A-FE (1.6L) I'm not sure exactly how many miles the engine has, the body has 269000 miles but the engine is out of a 1995 and the spark plugs look extremely good, no evidence of being an oil burner. I've ran 4500 miles on it so far and have had a seal let go (distributor seal: Requires undoing 2 bolts and removing distributor to replace), my PCV grommet let go (replaced too), and the oil smells of gasoline to some degree (I believe this is normal on an ICE). Since replacing the worn out rubber seals, I've been losing 1/8 a quart every 1000 miles I think. How long should I try to run this oil? My climate is mild enough that 10W-30 isn't an issue (we see maybe a low of 20F for a week).
Additional background info: When I caught that the distributor seal let go, the engine was about a quart down and I had ran it like this for a bit, I suspect this subjected the oil to some high temperatures since there is a 7% grade I was driving up a few times a week with a hot engine).
Driving pattern: Some short trips, but a majority of my driving is highway miles and city driving with a hot engine.

1/8 quart every 1k miles...heck there are dozens of new cars that consume more than that.

Consider M1 High Mileage to help with the seals, otherwise you're good.

Losing 1/8 qt per 1000 miles, a quart per 8000 miles, isn't a big deal at all. You could very well do the full 15k that M1 says it's good for, with highway driving, and the quart you'll replenish during the OCI.That said, I'd do 10k or year, whichever comes first.

How far do you thing I can run this oil out? I'll be doing about 400 miles a week by the end of the month.

If this is the first OCI for you, and since you really don't know what has been used in it up until now, I would change it at 5k. Subsequent to that change, you could easily go 7.5k, or evern 10k. That is not what I would do, but it would probably work.

If it were mine, I would use Mobil 1 high mileage, and change it at no more than 7.5k. But then, I stop and think before I buy green bananas.

That's low consumption for all that mileage.

I've had the car for 30k so far, normal OCI is O'riley store brand 10W-30 with a micro guard filter every 4-4.5k. Used supertech 10W-30 once but it seemed to shear down more than the O'rileys.

I've kept my filters for the past few OCI so I can cut them open when I have the chance.

Well.....Mobil EP is good for a lot further. But I would not be putting that in this car as a regular thing......High mileage would be a more prudent choice.

What differentiates the HM from the EP? Will I need to use nothing but a HM oil after I start using it?
The engine has lower mileage than the frame does (If I go with seller claimed mileage, the engine has 90k on it since last rebuild, but I'm not all that confident in the accuracy of that).

EP is Mobils flagship oil in its class. It is not a 5,000 mile oil.

Mobil rates M1EP for 15K miles, the additives are balanced for long term use.

M1HM contains seal conditioners that may help you with oil loss. It may take 2 or 3 oil change intervals to see the benefit. Like all Mobil 1 oils except EP, it is rated for 10K miles. You can switch back to a non High Mileage oil, but of course the seal benefits (if any) will go away.

I would be concerned about the gasoline smell. I don't get it in my 129K mile 1.8L Corolla engine. The concern here is the engine may be using more oil but keeping the oil level high with gasoline. This is one place a Used Oil Analysis can really pay for itself.
