Mobil 1 Conerns?

Wasn't sure if I should lable this Mobil 1 concerns or Which Syn.
Anyway, with all the iron issues floating around about M1, better used oil analysis with PP along with many great used oil analysis on M1 and other brands. Are many people shying away from M1 with regard to this phenomina of iron showing up on the used oil analysis? Then I read early today that one of you were noting the oil consumption surround PP? Any of you notice this? Anyone care to debunk any of this "stuff" floating around?

I used Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in a Pontiac 3.4L van and noticed increased consumption vs M1 and Valvoline. It never used to moved on the stick, but with PP it started using about 3/4 qt per oil change. I know that isn't much, but it is something that I noticed. I have went back to using Synpower and have no consumption again. With all the rebates available Valvoline is one of the best deals out there.

I've used Mobil 1 10w30 for many years in my E-150, I will be changing it out for Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 later this fall. If I have any consumption issues I will be disappointed. This van never used a drop of oil and it doesn't leak. I'll keep my fingers crossed. So far the 5W-20 PP I am using in my Jeep is working fine, that will be changed out for Mobil 1 0W-20 this fall only because Pennzoil Platinum 0w20 is nowhere to be found.

Neither PP nor M1 improved over any of the semi-syns I tried so I stay with semi-syns and lagged far behind the semis in FE. I don't need the last 50 thousand miles for this [censored].

I just put Pennzoil Platinum in my car for the first time and I'd be absolutely surprised if it consumes any, as this car has never burned a drop before. So far so good...

A lot of stuff floating around is subjective opinions and personal interpretation of oil analysis by laymen.

Has Mobil 1 showed higher iron numbers in used oil analysis. Yes. What does this mean? I don't have the background to say.

Does switching to a new type of oil sometimes cause an increase in consumption?
Yes. This observation has been reported and observed many times and the term"seating" seems to come to mind(though I could just be out of my mind) Often times after the first fill the initial consumption issue stops. Sometimes it does not.

There is some great information here but you still have to be vigilant to seperate facts from opinions and subjective observations from good scientific observation.

This is going to be tricky because I am still quite envious of your Integra (of which I had a 1996 but died of Stop-leak) but you are on! And yes, ounces count as adding even if it's not 1/2 quart, 1 quart etc. I like any burger not named Mc-anything. I Realize now as my car gets older that hondas actually get better as they get older so I'm really asking for it.. I know..dang...gulp..

so what if Consumption increases the first time you switch to PP.


back when the Old havoline formula was still around we switched my dad's truck over to it and it consumed oil for a few oci's then just like that it stopped using oil.

When I switched it consumed consistently for about 3 OCI's before I switched back to Valvoline SynPower. That should have been enough time for it to quit consuming.

I didn't switch back to Valvoline because of the consumption (because it didn't consume that much), I just got a good deal on Valvoline.

I've been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my '08 Mustang GT, running 5,000 mile OCIs. I have not had any oil consumption in my last two OCIs.
