Mobil 1 Advanced Clean is here

I don't think those are official values, are they?

who's gonna take one for the team and send a virgin sample in for analysis????
It's not my turn. I sent in the first virgin Valvoline Restore and Protect sample a couple of yrs ago.
What did you find out from the sample you sent in? Would be helpful to know if it worth the extra $$$.
 
I'm curious what does the cleaning. If you look at the VOA there isn't much to see.
 
I have a '98 Vette with 40K miles. Oil changed every 6 months. The oil is absolutely clear. It's only been fed Mobil 1. I am not sure if there's an advantage to paying more for the Advanced Clean. Our 3 Subies feed on Costco (Warren Petro) oil and they are changed every 3,500M and also look very clean at change. Thought about trying the Valvoline Total Clean intermittently, but not sure if that's even worth the extra expense. I pick up a large amount of the Costco oil when they run it on sale. Comes out to $16 a jug.

I think you are right. If you've always been running Mobil 1, it's probably clean as a whistle. Every engine I have owned where the valve cover was off looked like new. Not just clean. Like new. Those were all run mostly on Mobil 1 with a few runs of other good oils. My wife's Compass started a Mobil 1 Extended Performance diet around 80,000 miles. It is now at 110,000. I will probably do a run of Advanced Clean in it, as with my Gladiator, which has been on the Mobil 1 diet since I bought it with 35k. It is now at 70k. But my 2018 Wrangler and Corvette have had the diet since new and I just don't think they need it. Honestly, the other two probably don't, either. It think any premium Mobil 1 oil will clean things up and probably relatively quickly.
 
Lots of engines look like new under the valve cover gasket but have piston deposits. That's what really matters. And you can't see those without a teardown. Do you burn any oil?
To be honest... I owned about 50 cars of all descriptions. None have ever burned any oil except perhaps an older Chevy where I ran them long distances at high speed. That amounted to 1/2 qt per oil change. Many had high mileage when I rolled them. I feel it more important to focus on frequent oil changes vs. the brand of lubricant. I my older MC I changed oil every 1500M until syn oil became available. I have a restored '69 Bonneville 650 and I run syn oil in that. I used to do oil analysis and found that regardless of the oil, fuel dilution happened. It's so cheap to change every 3500. I pay $16 a jug and buy factory filter in bulk. Total $21. With an oil change value, I am looking at 15 min.
