Didn’t realize it’s been out for a while. This explains why 0w40 has been so hard for me to find.Mobil1 5W40 FS x2: What is the point?
So, I have seen this in AAP today: Some PAO, mostly GTL. Rich in additives same as 0W40. Really good HTHS of 3.8. But no MB229.5. So, what is the point? I just hope they don’t plan to go away with 0W40.bobistheoilguy.com
I do not think they are replacing it. It lacks MB229.5.Didn’t realize it’s been out for a while. This explains why 0w40 has been so hard for me to find.
Should be FS / 2 rather than FS x 2.I do not think they are replacing it. It lacks MB229.5.
It was $24.xx IIRC. Priced the same as other non EP M1 oils.Light on approvals, more like a store brand competitor from a major. My guess is it's the same thing that VW dealers are now using for VW 502 bulk oil. It uses viscosity, calcium and ZDDP to achieve the specs and nothing else of note. VOA here:
VOA - New VW OE Oil - GE555401QDSP - 5w40 - Mobile Bottle
Below is VOA of the new VW OE Oil (P/N: GE555401QDSP) 5W40. Also included chart of all other VOA I have done when choosing oil for my 2016 S3. I do not have any Mobile oil VOA so be interested to see how this compares to off the shelf and may run it to see how it goes. Polaris VOA...bobistheoilguy.com
The previous Castrol bulk VW 502 oil was pretty much the same thing. It worked, I'm sure this will too. What is Wally's pricing on it? Should be less than the top tier offerings.

The linked thread hit the nail on the head IMO. People will choose if because it’s a 5w40 and that’s what their manual says. That's interesting. I don't know why this oil would be picked then with other oils of the same viscosity and more approvals are sitting next to it for the same price. Maybe the average Wally's customer will just grab it because they see "Mobil" on the bottle.
229.3 is an older MB spec.I do not think they are replacing it. It lacks MB229.5.
I know. Still lacks MB229.5.229.3 is an older MB spec.
How? Valvoline has MB229.5 if you referring to that.Just like the Valvoline 5-40, doesn't make sense.
Except the QSUD 5W-40 has the MB-Approval 229.5 which the Mobil 5W-40 lacks....Looks almost exactly like QSUD 5W40 except a bit more Ca.
Yes, and considering MSDS, it is really strange why that is the case. It has a pretty hefty amount of GTL and 10-20% PAO. Not sure Noack here is the reason why it is not MB229.5.Except the QSUD 5W-40 has the MB-Approval 229.5 which the Mobil 5W-40 lacks....

First thing I noticed. The MB 229.5 is important to me.I do not think they are replacing it. It lacks MB229.5.
