I don't much care, at least for my purposes, what's in Mobil 1 or whether its been watered down, because although I switched both my vehicles to Mobil 1 and 10,000 mi. OCI's a couple years ago, I have since then concluded that Mobil 1 Extended Performance is significantly better than Mobil 1 is now or ever was, so I've switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance. At only $5 more per 5 quart jug, why not switch if you're running long OCI's?

I will accept that used oil analysis tell us that Mobil makes some great oils - especially if wear metals are the main measure. As long as wear is low, should we really care how much of what is in the oil? If wear is low, should we even care if the oils stays in grade?
So, using those same used oil analysis, can someone come up with a "not so great" oil. Wear metals on used oil analysis seem to be more indicative of the engine than the oil.

Good point GMorg. I like to see multiple OCIs in a particular engine over a variety of conditions, applied to multiple examples of a particular engine design, before I would even attempt to critically rank quality/suitability of the oil in question.(excepting real obvious signs of trouble or gross misapplications)

I agree with Ray H. The others should get a grip on thenselves and find something constructive to do with the excess time. Joke-
I think why Mobil 1 switched the Mobil 1 Truck and SUV from 10w-40 to 5w30. is because alot of the trucks and suv engines are going to 5w30. and your average person walking in to auto zone or Walmart. who ones one will see a truck and suv oil made for their vehicle. so they will buy with out thinking. so just a marketing ploy. I would go on to say they might come out with a 5w-20 Mobil 1 Truck and SUV for the new ford engines that calls for that lighter weight.
I have used reg Mobil 1 and found it less than spectacular. I tried GC and I like it but still afraid of that 0w when my 4.7 dakota calls for a 5w30. after my rinse phase of ARX. I will try PP. I have used penz reg dino in all my vehicles and even though alot of people calls it a sludge maker. I never had a prob and with vehicles with over 100,000 miles on them.
mobil is begining to look alot like fram and their 400 million differnt filters. mobil has their 400 million different oils. and soon they will take up a whole isle in Walmart across from fram lol.
in the end stick with what works best in your engine. this is the prob with this site. it has so much helpful info but at the same time can make a person second guess what they use and spend alot of money then they dont have too.
this site helped me find a better oil filter than the frams I use to use. but at the sime time made me second guess what oil I should use and so on. I am not saying its anyones fault. its just so much info and can be overwhelming.

May I ask why? Do you have warranty concerns?
I am sure its fine to run it. its just in my head thats all. its warranty also. I have 30,000 more miles before its over. just dont want that what if they accually get a bright idea and check the oil. I know GC is a great oil. its just me .
