Mobil 1 0w-30 vs 5w30 - ACEA

Answer:
The testing required to obtain ACEA A5 has not been completed and there are no plans at this time to add this approval to Mobil 1 0W-30. If your vehicle requires ACEA A5 then you should switch back to the Mobil 1 5w30 at your next oil change. However, like all Mobil 1 products, Mobil 1 0w30 Advanced Fuel Economy is a strong oil that will provide outstanding performance in vehicles where it is used.

I won't touch any 30 synthetic oil that does not carry A5.

Mobil's response is a joke. The SL 0w30 had A5, fwiw.

yes A5 is a long drain spec and it has 8.5 tbn,heck i run this oil 7-9k.

I use Mobil 1 0w30 in my 2.7L 4WD Tacoma 5-speed. To keep the warranty in force for the 34,000 remaining miles on the powertrain warranty, I must change oil every 5,000 miles, so the fact that it's A1 (not A5) is no current concern. The fact that it is majority PAO (group IV) is a major plus. I know it's neither oW-20 nor 5W-20, but I cannot force myself to use thinner than 30-wt. oil in the extreme heat of a Texas summer. Old school ideas die hard when you're 64 YOA. Plus, the exact same engine in Toyota pickups in other parts of the world are approved for 5W-50 and other oils much heavier than USA requirements---that's my rationale, anyway.

For some reason Mobil 1 0w30 reminds me of the Made in USA Yellow-label Castrol Syntec 0w30 that was replaced with the superior GC.
