I guess this is a matter of contention on MS3 forums so I'll just lurk and figure out which I will use.

Thanks for the response.

What Mazda forum are you talking about?

I figured it out. My dealer was filling with 5W-20 and the online manual said to use 5W-20 (hence my belief to use 5W-20). When I looked at my paper manual it says to use 5W-30 with the turbo. This has been confirmed by Mazda Corp. via email.

Mystery solved.

You might double check the owner's manual if you really do own a turbo charged MazdaSpeed.

5w-20 was a mis-print. It's definitely 5w-30. Most MZR owners are seeing UOA's show shearing to 20w anyhow, as mine has done on last 2 reports. Wear numbers have been good, so not sure the shearing is necessarily a problem.

I run 5w-30 PP in mine and have considered 10w-30, but I'm sticking with the factory spec. My wife noticed the dealer put 5w-20 in on the first change and made then change it out (What a great wife!). I spoke to the service manager and he said 5w-30 was recommended for all of the turbo engines and it was the only reason that had it in the shop.
