Resample at manufacturer's recommended intervals for assessment

For the past 15,534 miles I have been using Mobil 1 Super Syn 10W30, and a Mugen Oil Filter (15400-XK5B-0000) exclusively.
Changed religously at every 3,107 miles.
And use Mobil Synergy 8000 unleaded fuel (minimum 97.5 RON).
My SiR II is not just my daily driver, and restoration in progress.
But also used for club level motorsport events like Dual Sprints, Bent Sprints, Motorkhana, and Trackdays.

Earlier this month I changed the engine oil, oil filter, and 5MT fluid.
And took used oil samples for both my first time, and the car's during my ownership.
The past 3,377 miles has included four Dual Sprint club motorsport events, a single day of Track Testing with sessions lasting fifteen laps.
Not to mention daily driving chores.

Cool car!

Just curious, is New Zealand's motor oil viscosity preference like Australia's (thick) or the U.S.'s (thin)?

Nice car you got there! We never got the SiR in the United States, always liked those. Especially the EG6... but I digress

The UOA looks great!

Hello there,

Thanks for the welcome.
And compliments about my SiR II.

IMHO, New Zealand's motor oil preference has moved away from 15W40/20W40/30W40/20W50.
To 10W30/10W40 over the past decades.
Which IMHO is a combination of the influence of the Japanese manufacturers.
New Zealand being land of the used JDM import.
And the new generation of American engines that are powering the large model Ford Australia 'Falcon' and GM 'Holden Commodore'.
I do notice though that 5W30 is more readily recommended in the USA.
For example with Honda's and Acura's.
Than for the same model sold here in NZ, or JPN.
Where they're recommended 10W30.

ThirdeYe
You'll be pleased to read the EG6 and EG9 are still very popular here in New Zealand.
But often they're being refitted with B18C powerplants.
There's a few EG5 Si's, and EG6 SiR-S' still being driven around also.

I was very curious to see how well my engine, its lubricant, both air and oil filters were doing their job.
I am both relieved and pleased to find they tested fine.
And look forward to the next engine oil/oil filter change and sample at double my recent interval, 6,214 miles.
Unfortunately though, my current fill of lubricant is not exclusively Mobil 1 10W30 again.
But includes Mugen MT105 Engine Oil Treatment.

I couldn't find much information or data sheets on any of the Mugen lubricant range.
Honda Japan also produce an Engine Oil Treatment for the JDM.
But I don't see it sold by Honda distributors worldwide.
So I was curious to find out what is MT105's makeup, and how good is it.
I am also looking forward to seeing how extended an oil change interval I can expect.
From my current default engine oil, air, and oil filter.

So sametime I drain the current fill, and take samples.
I will also take samples of virgin Mobil 1 10W30, and Mugen MT105.
And have them tested as well for reference.

I will also post a few other used oil analysis charts of cars I'm involved with later this year.
Owned by friends who also use their daily drivers for club motorsport use.
These include an E-EG2 CR-X del Sol SiR filled with Mobil 1 10W30.
GF-DC2 Integra Type R 98 spec, and LA-EP3 Civic Type R filled with Mugen Rev-R 5W40.
And finally an E-DB8 Integra Type R 96 spec filled with Motul 300V Power 5W40.
All filled with Honda MTF.
We all look forward to posting our used oil analysis.
Getting the most from our Honda's.
And the best protection for them.

Amazing that Honda dealers would sell an oil additive when all their owner's manuals say to use SAE and API approved oils, and NOTHING ELSE.

Then again, dealers are selling speed parts...

Mugen is the performance division of Honda (like TRD is to Toyota) so I don't see it being unreasonable that they sell it. Mugen products (aside from the usual tuner crowd favorites) are a lot more popular overseas than they are in the United States as well. I'm sure it's probably a good product, although probably unnecessary. Looking forward to your next analysis!
