Mobil 1 0w-30 ESP

I’m sure M1 knows what they’re doing but I am a little disappointed that some of the specs on the new formula of ESP 5w30 are not quite the same as the original ESP Formula. Most notibly the sulfated ash used to be 0.6 and is now 0.8. Noack was under 6% before, and the HTHS was slightly higher (3.58 vs 3.5) So even though it still has all of the same approvals, I can’t help but wonder if the previous formula was the better one. I know that oils usually get better with each new formula but then I also remember that Castrol 0w30 is not the same as it was when it was GC 0w30 (AKA Formula SLX from Germany) That being said, I will continue using ESP 5w30 in the Vette, but I’m going to be sad when I drain out the current fill, which is ESP Formula produced in 2018

No, because it’s more than twice the price and IMO really isn’t any better than ESP 5w30. They have almost the same HTHS and ESP has more approvals. Plus I can grab ESP from many different Canadian Tire locations but 0w40 Supercar is not easy to find.

Understand that & mainly just had me curious. Funny, I talk about easy "availability" when someone asks "Which oil" to use & here I am asking about SuperCar.

Because we often compare the differences between the 5w30 and the 0w30 and some people might be considering the 0w30 over the 5w30 due to its ester content. So a lot of the threads that are about the 0w30 end up with discussion of the 5w30 as well

So I would say "always" instead of often. so much so that information about the 2 oils is so confusing and conflated that its nearly impossible decipher.

I'd say that discussing two slightly different grades from the same product line can absolutely help to distinguish the differences as well.

It was a bummer to see him leave, but I don't blame him. It's extremely frustrating when people believe marketing hype over actual first-hand experience and knowledge. I hope he's doing well.

I seem to be having a problem getting them to un-flag it and use it as a baseline - apparently the don't believe i poured it out of the bottle into the sample contained despite me saying exactly that.

They retested it and confirmed the original results...

Do they think it’s an ILSAC oil? ESP 0w30 meets the SP engine tests, but that’s it. So it can have higher additive amounts.

To be honest, i have no idea what they think - I've sent 2 reference samples to Indy and ive had to have this conversation both time, maybe i should start sending them to Houston.

Best part is this formula is available in 0w20, 0w30, and 0w40!
