Quick question...I have added 1 quart of MMO to my oil about 650 miles ago and now my low oil light is coming on. Would it be safe to add more to that equation if so should I change the oil filter? So far I'm around 3.5k on my OCI. Would it be safe to add it and drive over 100 miles, then change it, or should I change the filter and go to a 5k interval? This is a 93 Lexus ES300. Any input would be greatly appreciated

Is it low on oil? If yes, add oil. Better yet, change it and get that MMO out of there.

If it's not low, you may have a pressure problem. Which means don't drive it until you get it checked out.

If the light stays on after adding oil, you should have it towed to a qualified mechanic.

I would either change oil/filter, or add enough straight motor oil to bring it up to the full level.

Is it STAYING on? ..or does it just come on at idle? Either way, change it out soon.


Any odd noises? Loud HLA's (I don't even know if it has HLA's)??

from what i hear mmo thins out the oil so i would not use t in the crankcase, but i do use it in the gas

I hope I am wrong but isn't putting MMO in your oil old school, kind of like putting ATF too clean your engine.

Adding MMO to the oil will help clean things up, but going 650 miles is a bit to long. Usual recommendation is 100-200 miles tops.
It does help soften varnish.

Low as in I need a quart. I'll change my oil when I come home for the weekend....Should I run cheap dino for 200 miles, then dump it and go with any oil of choice, or do you guy's think I'm fine going back to a 5k oci?

easy on the MMO--it kept my 70 Cougar 351C-4V from bending pushrods if revved to 5K. I ran one half quart MMO all the time with 10-40 winter and 20-50 in the summer. Engine lasted for 18 years (140K miles) and ran very well. Consumed 1 qt every 3K which was ver good for engines of that vintage

Any decent oil should get you the 200 miles.

I'd just dump it and move on to what you want to do.

I'm surprised that MMO would recommend 1 quart added to the sump (w/o overfilling). I just read it on the jug. That's too much in my opinion ...even if I did use it in oil.

I'd recommend Auto-Rx for your future cleaning needs. Use MMO in the fuel if you feel so compelled.

Wouldn't any solvents eventually boil off/evaporate at the temperatures in an engine, leaving whatever non-volatile stuff is in the MMO?

What about using MMO along with a heavier-than-recommended oil grade to get a cleaning effect without lowering viscosity?

Yes, the solvents do eventually boil off.
As far as using a thicker oil, I suppose that would work, but how much thinning effect does a single quart have?
Four Qt of 10W-40 plus one of MMO puts you about the same as 5w30. After the solvents boil off, the oil is thicker again.
Do we have any used oil analysis either way on this?

Most of it does I am certain. What residual chems are left behind though, and what does it do to your oil? The volatile petroleum distillates, that MMO is mainly composed of, are the very same which oil refiners and blenders go to great lengths to remove all traces of from good motor oil!

What makes you think that putting that stuff back into your oil is a good idea?

If I put MMO in my crank-case it would be from the parts store, to home and then do my oil change.

I'd use it as quick flush and thats about it. I wouldn't drive more then 50 miles with it in my car.

I'm running 12 oz in a 93 Aerostar for 1000 miles before the next OC. I've done doses up to 1/2 qt, usually 500-1000 miles before the OC, without issue. I have a friend that has been using 1 QT at every oil change for probably 30 years now in variuos cars w/o issue. He had a valve cover off an old Corolla last year, the engine had close to 200K and was clean as a whistle.

Not sure if I would use a QT, but as I mentioned I never had any problems with it.

I plan on getting some Auto-RX and trying 4 oz doses in my new Jeep. I want to see if I can increase MPG and keep it clean.
