all blends may not be shams, but making one's own may be less useful than one would estimate. Why? balancing of the individual lubricants' chemistries.

May or may not be the case. For my buck, if Im looking for the best cross between value and performance, Id be buying Schaeffer's

JMH

Will it give better protection than... What?
It may be better than the plain dino oil, it may not be better than straight redline.

I have mixed RL with Tropartic, Motorcraft, Havoline and Mobil Dino. I believe it gives me better oil analysis (I have done an oil analysis on all of them). I believe the benefits are : High quality Ester base and more moly. I believe it will protect better and allow some engine cleaning. I highly recommend it. Oh, and I have mixed it with GC and Mobil 1.

I've mixed RL with M1 and saw no statistically valid improvement. Al, looking at your UOAs, I don't believe anyone can draw any statistically valid conclusions from that data either.
