Since I got a great deal on pennzoil 5W20 at Home Depot, I thought I would mix. Planning on using 2.5 qts dino pennzoil and 2 qts PP in a 2005, 2.4 honda I-VTEC. Been doing 5,000 OCI and just turned 15,000. Have got enough to do 6 oil changes. Any problem doing this? Thanks , Tim

Now that you mentioned this, I find it strange that no Pennzoil syn-blend has been available here in Lower Michigan since the Platinum arrived. Why is that & has it been discontinued .... anybody?....Johnny?

It works very nicely. I posted a UOA of 4 quarts of regular Pennzoil 5W-20 and 1 quart of 5W-20 PP. Prior to doing this I had the following response from Pennzoil tech support "Thank you for your interest in our products. There is no problem with adding a quart of Pennzoil Platinum to 4 quarts of the Pennzoil conventional oil. They will mix without any problem.
Sincerely
Product Technical Service"

Brent, Thanks for the response. I didn't think it would hurt, but I wasn't sure.

I just sent Pennzoil.com an email requesting if I can blend three quarts of older Pennzoil Synthetic (prior to Platinum) -- with two quarts of Group V Platinum Synthetic?

Ethylene-alphaolefin polymer (EOP). EOP is synthesized from ethylene, propylene and butene using a single-site catalyst, and the reaction products from the process exhibit comparable physical and chemical properties to PAOs.

I think the next big trend in base oils & additives is strictly GTL, so the EOP base oil project got "left on the wayside".

All the major lubricant suppliers - ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, and , of course Shell, have major financial committments to GTL projects in the middle east.

And no doubt, based on the GTL footprint for GF-5 in 2010, the additive companies are already developing tecnologies for use with the GTL Grp III basestocks.

So, I think EOP basestocks, and any special additive technology, as an alternative to PAO, were about 5 years too late in the initial launch, as capital funds are now being channeled to GTL.

Do you have to mix 50/50 Syn/Dino?? I just bought some PP 5w-30 from Canadian Tire and was going to mix it with dino Penzoil 5w-20. I wanted to run 80%PP/20% dino in my Hemi. I hope this works with no problems.

You can use any propartions you want.

FWIW to the OP,
In my '97 Expedition 4.6L w/127k miles, I'm running 5 qt's Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 & 1 qt. Pennzoil dino 10w30. My Expy's engine seems happy.

I got some of that Home Depot Clearance stuff also.
I am running 3.5 qts Pennzoil Dino 5w-20, 1 qt PP 5w-20, and 1 qt PP 5w-30 in my wifes Grand Caravan right now, and 3 more changes that will be about a 50-50 mix of PP and Dino.
