Hello, I just bought a new Iron and Oak 30 ton log splitter. The documentation said it would come dry with no fluid. It calls for AW32 hydraulic fluid. I have a ton of JDM -20C premium hydraulic transmission fluid. I used that, then found out it was not dry and had several gallons of the AW32 in it. Is this OK? Thanks in advance, Brad

What's the ISO spec on the JDM-20c?

Okay, you're talking about the JOHN DEERE HYGARD FLUID (JDM J20C).

It should work for the log splitter and mixing shouldn't be a problem.

In a warm climate fine. Cold, I would think twice. Most of these I see call for HVI 22, 32 or ATF. J20C is about 60cst?

supercity, I just switch over to atf this winter. I will never use hydro fluid again in splitters. smooth as silk and not sluggish in the cold (-25*F), idle engine til it smooth out and run it. with hydro fluid it would be sluggish till the tank warmed up.

Just looking at some of these threads on Hyd oil in splitters. Who in their right mind is using a wood splitter at -25f? Even on down below 15 F would be unlikely, though possible.

I'd rather be at 40 degrees on up, towards 65.
