With all of the oil tech geeks here, if anyone knows the answer to this, it would be here. I have been on the Honda boards and no body knows of an equivalent for a Honda Hydro transmission. I have done AI searches and have not found a clear answer. Everyone for the most part is unsure or does not know. I have seen one poster say he has used Amsoil 10w-30 Full Synthetic Hydraulic fluid and he feels it is fine. Another one other said he used Mobil 1 0w-40 as a top off fluid only. Can anyone say if they know of an equivalent Honda hydro fluid. Most of the answers are, I would not risk it. Just use the Honda hydro static fluid. OK, I get that. I do not want to get into why I am asking. If that is your answer, please do not bother. Unless you are OCD and need to reply for your mental health. That I understand and am happy to help you in that way. Thanks in advance.

What Honda item is this? Skid Steer? Bird feeder?
Don't you know bird feeders are AI nowadays. None of that antiquated hydro fluid bird feeder stuff. $300 now pay up. Don't forget to pair it with alexa and follow the instructions as the instructions state is it imperative you point the bird feeder camera towards the bedroom window so jeff can watch you.

Who makes the hydro unit? The manufacturers use hydros made by another company and they usually include a different service manual for them.

High Performance Lubricants (HPL) makes a 5W-50 Hydrostatic fluid. Some members on here use it in their outdoor power equipment.

It might not be on the website but if you call or email they will let you know. How that compares to Honda Fluid, no clue.

It would be helpful to know what Honda machine we are talking about, but as I recall, Honda did make a compact tractor line. If that is what you have, I would want a fluid that is compatible with common sump tractors. They are usually used for transmission fluid, final drive lube, and hydraulic fluid. If you do not want to go with a Honda product (or maybe its no longer available) I'd look at the Kubota Super UDT2 or CNH Hytran fluid. Something of that type.

If this is a hydro unit for lawn tractor or zero turn, I have no idea. A lot of those units were designed to use engine oil.

I did reach out to HPL and they got back to me over the week end. They were not able to Cross Ref to an other product because they could not identity what was in the Honda Hydrostatic fluid. Some message board research found that others have used Ames Oil 10w-30 Hydraulic oil with no issues. One person used 0w-40 Mobil 1 as a top off fluid and They reported no issues. I believe the snow thrower hydro transmissions are made by Honda. I have found no evidence otherwise. They certainly keep product info close to the vest.
