I ordered a APWI passenger side axle for my 96 Maxima. The sealing surface of the new shaft is 10mm inboard of the factory location. After tightening the three bolts on the carrier bearing the shaft is pressing hard into the diff cross pin "locking" the side gear and diff carrier together. I could turn the driver side tire in neutral and the passenger side turned the same direction, as if I suddenly had an LSD.
I'm going to dissect the new shaft and swap the new inner boot and new outer joint and boot onto the OEM Nissan shaft, essentially rebuilding the original.
What I'm wondering, is how clean do I need to get the new boot before I swap it on to the OE inner joint? Will tripod joint greases of the same color mix, or is there enough of a difference to cause concern?

It doesn't take much time to blast the empty tripod joint with brake cleaner to ensure that the grease on the new CV will not clash with the old stuff.

Yeah, I was just wondering how clean I need to make the new boot.

The old boot is still intact and sealed. The old grease will be staying in the old joint and getting the new boot. Ill also be scraping the old grease from inside the old boot and putting it inside the new boot.
I'll just make sure its VERY clean then.
