I ordered a APWI passenger side axle for my 96 Maxima. The sealing surface of the new shaft is 10mm inboard of the factory location. After tightening the three bolts on the carrier bearing the shaft is pressing hard into the diff cross pin "locking" the side gear and diff carrier together. I could turn the driver side tire in neutral and the passenger side turned the same direction, as if I suddenly had an LSD.
I'm going to dissect the new shaft and swap the new inner boot and new outer joint and boot onto the OEM Nissan shaft, essentially rebuilding the original.
What I'm wondering, is how clean do I need to get the new boot before I swap it on to the OE inner joint? Will tripod joint greases of the same color mix, or is there enough of a difference to cause concern?
