I am still working through a VOA clarification on a sample of G-OIL 0W-20 that I sent in for analysis and came back with wildly different results

Until the second set of labs come back, I'm not really convinced of anything just yet...

Having said that, it's time to change the oil in my '07 Ranger 2.3L 4cyl that requires 5W-20. I have some sealed Amsoil ARO 20W-50 kicking around with no other purpose at the moment. If we assume the lab's viscosity of 7.2 cSt@100C is correct, what would happen if I mix 1 quart of 20W-50 to three quarts of 0W-20 to fill the 4qt sump? Would I end up in the ballpark of a 5W-20? This is a grocery-getter truck remember...

Save the 20w50 for the ope's. i used 15w50 in a honda powered pump at the farm. it was a top off fuel in remote tank ad switch valves for switching arigation of field, 24/7 operation. one week oci. ran for years on 15and20w-50.. ran 6months a year for twoo plus years.

I originally bought the ARO to change the transmission oil in my tractor, but I bought more than I needed and won't be using the remaining 20W-50 for at least a few years. I just figured it would beef up a light 0W-20 to relatively close to the engine's recommended 5W-20 and use up extra oil at the same time.

20 wt.

Hi Jim,

I think a full quart (25%) of ARO 20W-50 would give you a pretty heavy 5W-20.
Just using 2/3rds (17%) of a qt of ARO would be all you'd need to thicken up the G-Oil. If that's too much messing around then just go with the full qt, it'll still be a 5W-20.

Thanks everyone. I changed the oil today, and went with a full quart of ARO 20W-50 and three quarts of G-OIL 0W-20. I ran it for a while, and it seems to run normally. Again... this isn't a high performance application, it gets me back and forth when needed.

Now, what to call that blend... the G-SOIL 5W-20 maybe!?!?
