Can I use let say valvoline, castrol, idemitsu eneos or else meeting CVTF J4 in my Outlander ? Here is what their representative respond to that :

We provided them with the parameters of our product in order to have a scale against which there could be a chemical comparison; none of the products offered as "compatible" products has so far met all of the minimum standards referred to in such a benchmarking (minimum set baseline)

So here goes the warranty if we are not getting ripped off by our beloved dealership



So, what do you think of that ? Looks like nothing but Diaqueen should be in my tranny .

Its like most of the after market producer are either lying about meeting CVTF J4 and or that spec worth less then nothing ...

I did a fluid change on my Mitsubishi Outlander with the Diaqueen brand. Even though the stuff is pricey my 10 year warranty is not expired yet so no need to have a trans failure challenged by Mitsubishi. The vehicle has been 100% trouble free. Just wish it were a chain drive not belt driven engine. Probably won't keep it much past 100K.

if there is warranty involved I'd use oem. Hyundai dealer by me sends in transmission fluid samples for testing before any repair work for example.

Nothing wrong with using dealership oem transmission fluid. That's all I use in my Accord, Honda DW-1 from the dealership.

I 'll use OEM for sure , however saying that one or many cvt oil from majors arent up to the quality delivered by Mitsubishi is a bold statement . Here goes the MM act down the drain .... having the law on your side is meaning sweet phoque all ....

yup ... they are not really kind to me lol ...... no matter what other will say its OEM or nothing ... I dont want to end up with mother Mitsu pissed at me

Probably you won't get troubles because compatible oils. For better you should know chemical data from labo and investigate. It's true sometimes OEM fluids are different from compatibles, example VAG or PSA gear oils here.

Amsoil from my reading claim to have the best fluid for this application and when I last checked was a good bit cheaper too.

Mitsu normally has unique Friction Modifiers. Not sure about this specification. Amsoil is also a great fluid! ^^^

You're going to hear from, I put in Banana Juice to Chanel #5 ATF and it's fine.
It all depends on how well you want to maintain the mechanicals. If you are changing vehicle every 2-3 yrs or leasing one you're going to get away scot-free with a multi-use ATF, as shortcomings only come out after many years of not following manufacturers suggestions. You OTOH keep your vehicles for 10+ yrs so if you're not following recommendations you'll likely run into AT problems. Now is what you may be saving on ATF by using another product worth the later cost of repairs? Only you can answer that. If you don't want to use the OE fluid, I'd use at least the fluid recommended by the transmission manufacturer, I also would not follow the ATF fluid exchange given by a vehicle manufacturer, but I'd follow what the AT manufacturer advises. Shields up Scotty let's make it for a safe place!

MM Law doesn't apply in Canada.

Be careful. If you install any other oil, it will react with the Beta Gamma Ray-238 coating inside the housing, and immediately turn to concrete. It's an expensive fix that won't be covered by the warranty.

I know but we have the exact same thing here in Quebec, I dont know for Ontario here is what we have :

Use of a specific product​

Does the manufacturer request that you use a specific brand product for a maintenance? It is allowed to do so in the following circumstances:

• if the maintenance is free;
• if the manufacturer can prove that the car cannot function properly without the use of this product;
• if the extended warranty contains such requirement.

If they can prove it ok, but they wont show it to me .... I have to believe them ....

Anyway , I just wanted to resist a bit ... but Ill fall in their trap and play their game ..... risking 200.00 against 6000.00 would be crazy

But it was fun anyway , look the response from I got from Castrol when I mentionned that Mitsu dont like their oil .... maybe

So my Mitsu rep was right all along ... its Mitsu or nothing lol

Castrol always recommends following the guidelines of the original engine manufacturer for the recommended fluid for use in your specific application. This information can be found in the vehicle's owner's manual or by contacting the manufacturer directly. Before using any lubricant, ensure that the lubricant product specifications meet or exceed the lubricant specifications required by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for that specific use.

Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT Universal is suitable for use where Dia Queen CVTF-J4 fluid is specified.

However, Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT Universal is not approved by Mitsubishi.

Japanese vehicle manufacturers only approve their own genuine (dealership) ATF’s such as Dia Queen CVTF-J4.

Castrol cannot guarantee compatibility with competitive fluids as we do not know their proprietary formula, therefore we recommend a complete drain of the transmission and re-fill with Castrol Transmax ATF/CVT Universal.

This should include draining the torque converter which holds about one-half of the ATF volume -- dropping the pan will not cause the torque converter to drain.

You may find directions for draining the torque converter online or you may wish to have this service performed for you by a service facility.
