hello ive looked at the base fwd model mitsubishi outlander sport. it physically fits me and my needs, didnt seem too slow with 2.0 engine, long warranty, attractively priced. my big worry is the long term prospects of the company (hence attractive price). do any mitsu owners out there care to share your views on this or alternative vehicles, outside of rav4 and crv? no sunroof, no leather, no stop/start. just two of us, without kids or pets to ferry. thanks!

We call it the ASX here. Same platform as the Lancer, Outlander and Eclipse. Pretty well bullet proof and not much goes wrong with them. Mitsubishi is a viable company here, and the ASX is normally at no3 on the small SUV sales charts. I worked for a Mitsi dealer here for 10 years, and we never had an ASX in for more than servicing.

thank you silk. im actually in jakarta as i write, mitsu has decent reputation here too, though way behind toyota/daihatsu in sales. im wondering if the 2.4 engine is worth the premium over the 2.0...

I have two 2014's
One SE and one ES
No issues and I use them as workhorses
The oil is super easy to change and the engines are very smooth

If you do Interstate travel get the bigger 2.4 engine
The 2.0 is fine and peppy but in a headwind at higher speeds you wish you had
The bigger engine. No issues with either at this point.

New ones are better appointed these days with even higher quality materials.

Friends have had 3 of them; a 2011 Outlander 2.4, a 2013 Outlander 2.4 and a 2015 Outlander Sport. All had a CVT. They live in the mountains and all 3 vehicles shifted fine.

I did a transmission drain & fill on the 2011 at ~115K. The fluid was the color of dark maple syrup and didn't smell burnt. I'm not certain the classic burn smell is even possible with the unit's construction.

I don't recall there being a 2.0 but I was nowhere near the research or purchase phases. I'd never go for any V-6 as the rear bank will always be hard to deal with.

I'd say give it a fair look. There is some value to be had there.

I like the Outlander but Mitsu is running a silly commercial in my area (salesman starts rapping)....a total turn-off.
