Missing Honda underbody plastic push rivets

I changed the oil on my '15 Accord yesterday which was thankfully uneventful.

But while underneath, I noticed some of the plastic panels under the front fascia were a little loose, then that some were **** near disconnected. Turns out I'm somehow missing almost 20 of those plastic push rivets that hold all the plastic panels together and to the car. There's no way in hell they all just fell out on their own.

Glad I saw and and can fix it cheaply but it's stupid that it's even necessary.

that isn't cheap at all man, at least from experience in using the Toyota clips, I couldn't find after-market alternatives that were as easy to remove as the OEM Toyota ones.

that being said, while in college, my car was parked out and with all the snow that Wyoming got, having the plastic shields in place was worth it.

My 07 Mazda RX8 had several front fender liner plastic buttons missing by the time it was as old as your car. I read one guy lost front liner at high speed on the track. I just Googled it up, and found a box of Mazda TRibute buttons (same thing) for $15.

Yes, they can get old from heat and fall out.

That's interesting and strange. Owned a fair share of Hondas, different models, never had the valence/fascia push pin rivets just disappear. Had them show signs of being scraped but that's it. (Not doubting you) Yes, an easy fix. Have a bag of the rivets here I bought from Amazon years ago when I replaced a Civic radiator. Had to remove the bumper cover. I believe you own the same generation Accord as mine, so now I'm going to inspect it to make sure all is well. Another plus for diy oil change.

If you're interested in the bag of 40 rivets I purchased from Amazon, you can pm me. And I checked my Accord, currently all good.

Honestly, I hate those plastic shields, especially if you have to remove them every time you change the oil! Take it off and don't put it back on! You can get annual rustproofing and car washes to keep the rust off :)

Yes, Amazon has 3rd party copies cheap in bulk which is what I ended up buying, but the OEM ones from Honda parts houses online were actually priced nearly as well (35 cents each or thereabouts).

There are so many rivets missing I need to decide if I'm going to just start replacing them arbitrarily or remove the ones that are left, pull everything off, assemble the pieces off the car then hang them all back on there in one piece.

Was the car ever serviced and the panels removed? sounds like a crummy mechanic decided they were extra parts and threw them in his spare fastener box.

No, this generation Accord does not have an undertray. These panels cover the voids underneath the front bumper and radiator and in front of the front wheels. It would like an unfinished kit car if they weren't there.

Nope, there's no reason to remove them unless the front fascia needed to be removed for something which it never has.

One little road rash from being pushed on/off a parking curb or snowbank usually shears them right off.

I've got a generic assortment kit of them but they never seem to match exactly the OEM style. They'll generally work though.

I was looking under my FIL's 2021 Nissan Rogue the other day. In order to do a simple oil change you have to drop this huge silly louvered fuzzy fiber under cover that's held on by over 20 push-pins. I'm pretty sure I'd leave it off. I'm guessing it's their for aerodynamics or NVH reduction? There's no way that thing would survive even a few kwiki oil changes.

Like to fill the space between the bottom of the wheelwell liner and the front bumper, etc.....

I've gotten replacements at the parts store but they're never as good as OEM. Brittle, etc..... It's probably worthwhile to try to get genuine Honda ones.

Not to belabor the point, but that many missing with no known cause, a mystery for sure.

And looking on Bernardi parts, 2015 Accord rivets new/different parts number than ones I have. I had good success with Amazon aftermarket rivets and including shipping the online oem couldn't come close in price to the 40 count price. Noticed several suppliers for topic rivets on Amazon. I think I'd just replace the ones needing replacement now, but that's just me.

Gotta love my auto body supply shop.
They have all manner of push pin / body rivet mounted on a board.
You look and say, "24 of #3309 and 12 of #5545, please."
At $0.19 each you'd be as happy as I am.

My neighbor is good for 4 "grind offs" per oil change.

Its possible that over time they rattled out of that they cracked and fell out. Theyre just plastic, afterall. I put those clips in all day long at my job and I can tell you that once theyre set, they dont usually become unset.
