What are your choices for mid-size hybrid SUV’s (non luxury brands) in 2025 ? While BMW , Lexus , etc. make great vehicles - they are simply outside of my price range . Currently the Japanese makers of Honda , Toyota and Mazda peak my interest at this time - but I’m open to other makes which are reliable for a good price .

I recently drove the CX-50 Hybrid, and it's great.
It has the RAV4 drivetrain, so you get the Toyota reliability with Mazda design/interior quality - the best of both worlds.
If you are looking for a larger SUV, I think the CX-70/CX-90 is a unique product, as it is a rear-wheel drive platform, it drives better - but has less interior space compared to Toyota's Grand Highlander.
CX-50h or the RAV4 Hybrid are my picks.
Mazda for the upgraded interior but funky entertainment controls (imo)

CX-50h (but it's more compact-sized). Last-gen Toyota hybrid powertrain (bullet-proof), and CX-50 looks like a Ferrari compared to most Toyota hybrids (opinion).
Midsize to me = Highlander in Toyota's line up, not a RAV4. HiHys are well regarded.
My daughter bought a 2024 Honda CRV Sport Touring this year and loves it. You should give it a look. Very comfortable 36mpg around town, heated seats , heated steering wheel and Bose radio. Make the Rav4 feel utilitarian IMHO. MSRP 42k you can get 2k off that no problem.
My sister in CO is picking up a 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV next week, on a 24-mth/24k mile lease deal. The Fed + State + Mazda Loyalty rebates = just over $15k USD. With 3.5% off an MSRP of $57,xxx, and residual of $37,xxx, her monthly lease payment with very little down is under $200/mth. I have to credit the Leasehackr site for making me aware earlier this month of all these incentives.
Anyways, not a bad time to buy or lease one with all the incentives. The Mazda rebates expire on January 2nd.

I personally dislike the idea of buying a vehicle with a "rebranded" or "licensed" hybrid drivetrain from a competing brand. These partnerships are rarely long-term (they're often one-and-done) and the parts are never 100% identical. Once the vehicle gets older and you need parts for repair, you can be SOL.

Mazda is making their own hybrid system either soon or already has it out.
Is that the shorter one or the now longer "Grand Highlander"?
I believe you can still buy either one.
