Hello,

I have a docx document which for unknown reasons got corrupted. I get the following error message: "Word cannot open the document."
Please help me to recover my hours of work.

How to make docx repair?

A couple of points in addition to the TR article.

(1) Did someone just remove the extension? See if you can rename it and add ".docx" without the quotes.

(2) Occasionally Libreoffice/openoffice can view Word files, even after they give MS Word fits. If you don't have one of those programs installed, you can go here: http://www.libreoffice.org/ to get Libreoffice.

A Word document with the .docx is a fancy .zip file.

Rename your document as ,zip and then unzip it as you normally would.

Then, look for the file called "document.xml" which should be inside the "word" folder that was created upon unzipping.

You'll find your text inside this file.

Thank you for taking the time to share how to solve my problem. I shall try all the ways you suggested

JBaw, If you go this route I suggest downloading and using LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice: the former is a fork of the latter but is more actively developed; and my wager'd be that it would support a newer MS Office format better.
