Oops sorta forgot about it. I thought I cleaned it once but can't say for sure on that. Didn't look to bad considering. Unfortunately the replacement but be a Fram built the old a Purolator and you can see where both were built

why is everyone on bitog so concerned about items being made in usa? i;m not trying to argue, just wondering.

The majority of the 40k was highway/city miles. We rarely drive on dirt/gravel roads in fact the only ones it's been on is the 2 miles from the blacktop to my parents house. This one should get a bit dirtier.. sorta modified the air box for a throatier sound at that it does. Now need to replace the cabin filter that was put in at the same time. I can guarantee that one is dirtier. OReilly's here doesn't carry any cabin filters so going to check Wally world. I'm not taking that one out till I have to.

Technically I probably could of but it seems to be choking. On the smallest hills you almost have to down shift. I figured I'd start on the small things first. I did clean the MAF sensor today also and put MMO in tank which was filled yesterday.

I don't know, we (Bitog) seem to be going through a nationalist ideology posting phase at the moment. Think it's always there beneath the surface, sometimes it just boils to the top. JMO

As for the topic, doesn't look too bad. However, the new filter with flat top molded gasket looks Purolator made to me, similar to the Puro af's I've seen a Kmart. The top, used, may be Purolator too, just made in the USA. Or, it could be a Fram, which tend to have more a rounded foam top gasket.

Afaik, Microgard air filters didn't follow the same change over to Fram/Honeywell made, as the oil filters.

The Purolator and the Fram built looked exactly the same I was surprised. I'm not stuck on the USA by all means but it's down right pathetic we can't build the smallest things here. It's not so much greed of the American people but the companies themselves. I could go into it more...

Wasn't really commenting about you specifically with the ideology comment, more about some of the overt posts showing up lately. In the past from time to time, I've mentioned where a product was made .

I'd swear, especially on the new one, that it's Puro made. Is there some kind of indication on the box or filter that says who the manufacturer is? I'll have to take a closer look next time I get by an O'R.

If you look at the part numbers the old is GA35323 the new is a MGA8997. An actual Fram equivalent is TGA8997. If I would of went to AAP a Purolator's # is A35323. The Purolator is $2 higher and I would of had to deal with the idiots at AAP... not worth it in my opinion.

After driving it yesterday this filter is going to be changed every 20k. It's like driving a whole new Escape!

Sometimes numbering system may not be an indication of manufacturer. Example, the Purolator made AAP Total Grip oil filters used a Fram numbering system. So a AAP TG numbered 7317, was really same as Puro 14610 size. That said, don't know if that's the case here, might get to look today.

Also, don't know if there are any Kmarts in the KC but they carry Puro oil and air filters too.

You can probably have Oreillys order them and have them to your store within a couple business days if you want to purchase there instead of Wal-Mart. It will likely cost a little more though.

That's right, shorter is better. Run it and evaluate the performance. If performance/mpg improves after the change, run a shorter interval. I'm down to 2 years or 18,000 miles.
