Microgard MGL10290 C&P

Just some info I found digging around the 'net. Shows the big connection between Premium Guard Inc (PGI) and the in-house MicroGard branded products at O'Reilly Auto Parts.......

Good to see confirmed that I was on target using the "PGI" acronym in reference to filters made by them, like topic MicroGard and CQ Premium. That, as distinct from "Premium Guard" labeled brand/line of filters.

As for filter numbering system, agree that format used, eg. Fram, Purolator, Wix, not necessarily an indication of filter manufacturer. Excellent example, back when I first joined the forum, AAP had a filter called the "Total Grip" (I used many) indisputably made by Purolator that used the "Fram" numbering system. So,14610 was labeled a 7317. And in my observation store brands often just carry over the original numbering system format when they change manufactures.

As for topic filter, I was surprised to see 'what looks to be' a silicone adbv on the base MicroGard. Nice addition, especially so if carried across all applications.

The made in India have black adbv’s probably nitrile, and closely follow the Purolator tech filters. I bought two. One 4967 size, one 4386 size. I can never remember the Wix style sizes. Pretty sure the Vietnam 3614 equiv size has a black adbv, looked at it, but didn’t buy that one, prefer not to.
Of course it isn’t written in stone a store has to buy from Wix to use their numbering system on house brand. No one here said that.
I put everything in Fram sizes, it shows how commonly used they are. Especially the orange can.

Yes, PGI is the umbrella all those brands shown in post 19 are under, including their own Premium Guard label. Think most here just use "PG" when talking about who makes filters like the MicroGard Select, Carquest Premium, STP XL, etc. I look at PGI like Champ Labs where they make lots of other private labeled brands, but also make their own "CHAMP" brand too. Now as some know, Champion Labs are technically First Brands owned since 2020.

Microgard MGL10290 filter off of the 2020 Equinox AWD with the 1.5T engine we recently bought. Mileage and oil unknown. Dealer supposedly changed oil I seriously doubt it. Filter and drain plug were on WAY too tight. Seems well built although the inside of the top cap has some roughness around the holes and threaded piece. There was nothing at all in the bottom of the can. I'll cut the filter out after it drains a bit.

Not a bad looking filter. When I bought my 2021 Equinox used from a Mazda dealer last year, it had a Napa Pro Select oil filter on it. Not knowing for sure the dealer changed it, I did an oil change the next day or so. After cutting the filter open, it was basically new.

Nice easy oil change on these 1.5T Equinox's aren't they? Everything is right out in the open and relatively mess free.
